People need to understand that QVC depends heavily on profits from S&H charges to balance the books. Some quarters it has made the difference between operating in the black or operating in the red. It's not a capricious charge that's arbitrarily stuck on the item; you should consider it part of the cost of doing business with the company. Places like Amazon, LL Bean, or Zappo's don't have the huge expense of running 3, 24/7 television channels. Just consider the salaries they must pay hosts and technicians as well as the administrative personnel. Considering all of this, I don't know how they sell and ship as inexpensively as they do.

Just wondering if the Q couldn't rethink their S & H charges and return fees to stay in line with Amazon, Nordstrom, etc. For example, I ordered a pair of pants, paid $3 S&H, then I had to send them back to exchange for a smaller size, and now I will be charged with the return shipping, and the shipping for the new item. I do love the Q, and have been a customer for 20 some years, but THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS. Granted, I pay less for things than at Nordstroms, but I get constant flak from my SO as to how fiscally irresponsible I am. He thinks the Q is taking tremendous advantage of all of us, and I am starting to agree with him. Maybe I need therapy!

I hope they read your post, this is the exact reason I really think twice about buying from the Q , why they do this is beyond me. I have been doing more shopping from BM, if I need to return I am not penalized. Hope I spelled that right. We can only hope the post will be passed on.

LL Bean and Zappos have free shipping and free return shipping too. Macy's too but depends on the amount of your order. I don't buy nearly as much from QVC anymore because of their shipping policy. If there was any rhyme or reason to it I could accept it better. That being said however a lot of companies charge outrageous amounts for shipping - much more than QVC. Kohl's for instance. Chadwicks of Boston. Chico's and J Jill.

I agree with @Kachina624, I think their s/h charges are pretty reasonable. And if less of an investment were required by the consumer to order & try the merchandise for 30 days, returns/exchanges would increase, which would lead to price increases, & a decrease in available stock. @FranandZoe mentioned LL Bean's free s/h. It wasn't free last year, when I ordered a pair of slippers to replace a pair I'd worn for years(same style & size). Apparently, they weren't cut as generously anymore, & I ended up paying s/h twice, trying to find a size that fit, & ended up with nothing but the charges!

I disagree with you all about what they have to pay for their overhead. QVC is a multi-billion dollar company. They earn 100 times more in profit than all these companies you have mentioned.

My pet peeve is shipping and handling with BM and other companies when the color isn't appropriate for you and you want to exchange. I'm sure BM could afford to include samples of their skin fondation for colors like some comspanies do say with their wigs (sample of hair color), etc. Real samples for colors that you can try on your skin. They can do it for moisturizers so they can also do it for fondation especially when new colors are concerned.

I hope QVC reads this.
