Suggestion for the Moderators

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but why not add a "thumbs down" icon next to the heart icon on the message screen so that we can just click it to let the OP know it was not a kind or appropriate message rather than arguments on the forum which eventually cause the post to be removed. I'm sure there will be those that still want to vent but maybe it will eliminate some of the long ranting negativity. Just my opinion.

That would only add more negativity. The ones who argue about everything will still have to get their last word in.

Why is it necessary to add something argumentative? Having a chance to "thumbs dowm" a post doesn't only say that a post is inappropriate. It could be a matter of topic also, which may not be inappropriate, but just things that irritate.

For example, I don't like religious topics, so what would a TD mean? It could mean I feel the OP is incorrect on a point, but it could simply mean I'm annoyed by the topic. Many posters wouldn't be bothered by such a post or would welcome it. That is what makes for good conversation.

i would rather see a dislike button than some of the endless arguing and repetitive complaining that goes on around here!

Just giving someone a thumbs down doesn't actually give the person useful feedback. The person receiving the signal has no way to accurately interpret what it means to the person giving it, so it means nothing. People will use it for different reasons, furthering the confusion.

I don't want to sit around and guess why someone gives me a thumbs down.

This is why we have words - so other people don't have to guess what we're thinking. All I think it will do is make the forum a more passive aggressive place to be. No thanks.

That's a wonderful post, @ChynnaBlue. I agree completely. I would add that, in my opinion, a "dislike" or "thumbs down" could easily be used just to try and add negativity merely because one poster doesn't like another poster, personally... or by the ubiquitous trolls who love to come here and flame. That's enough of a problem without providing a "down" button to the mix.

I can even see it creating more arguing. Example: With the "hearts" we've learned we can click on the number and see who "hearted" a post. So... with a "thumbs down" feature, someone sees several "dislikes" on their post, so they click on the number to see who added them. Then, they list all the "dislikers" and ask them why they disagreed... and arguments would ensue. I can't see how it would make anything better, and I do think it's likely it would increase animosity.

nothing will totally stop the arguing or nastiness around here.....that would be a dream. LOL

no one so far as i have seen is abusing the "mad/angry" emoticon. i would rather see someone use a dislike button on a post than quote that post and then numerous posters say the exact same thing ten to twenty times......10 to 20 follow up posts of a disliked post OR 10 to 20 dislike symbols.....the dislike button sounds better to me right now.

@Goodie2shoes There is no reason to have more censorship on these forums, it's already almost not worth posting here. We are all supposed to be adults here and spirited conversation should be welcomed instead of critiqued and deleted. Why can't people just not read and respond to the posts they don't agree with or find insulting, inappropriate or what ever. Just like people tell posters to change the channel if they don't like what or who's on the Q, do the same with the blogs and forums.

Unfortunately that's not how it works. The 'does not add to the discussion' on Amazon is the most abused feature I've ever seen on a board. There are some people that vote everyone down, and people that get voted down because they annoyed someone in the past. It doesn't really matter what they say.
