SUMMER? Seriously?

Right now D & co is on and Gary and Antionella are talking about an item that 'is perfect for summer evenings' I live in Chicago and only in the last week did I have to take out my winter coat. We have FOUR MONTHS before it gets anything close to warm weather.

Why must clothes be 3-5 months ahead all the time? I realize that some of the country is warm all year, but for quite a bit of us, it will be cold for the foreseeable future. Every year, I get to mid-January or February and want to buy a few more cold weather items, and can never find anything because it's all warm weather clothes. Then sure enough in June, right when it finally starts to get warm, they are talking about fall stuff...

Hi....it is retail.......retail always does things differently......they always

sell summer stuff in the wintertime and winter stuff comes out in the stores during

the summertime.

Retail is just funky..........

I live in an area that's barely crested 1 degree in a week and a half and I was just able to score a Pendleton Cape with buttons in a beautiful Western weave on a half off the clearance price at Dillards... a $400 cape for $150 and will probably be able to wear it well into May~!! Yeah for clearing out winter goods in the middle of winter!!! But I'm not interested in summer wear whatsoever..... at least not for months.....

Some of us have warm or hot weather 6 months of the year. I don't care for all the jackets, sweaters, and boots etc.

******************************I know it's hard to deal with deliveries before a season, but if you think of the steps it takes those clothes to get to you it's amazing they get there by the time they're wanted or needed.

Those items had to be drawn, patterns made, mock up garmets fitted, patterns adjusted, fabric, thread, and buttons found. Then, machines set to lazer cut the fabrics as catalogs which have been made go out to companies who will order. At the same time, production has started and a certain amount are made. Orders are generated and they go to company warehouses which send the items to stores in trucks. People come in in early morning, tear off plkastic bags and put the clothes on racks. By now that blouse has easily been handled by 30 people before you see it in the store. As you try the blouse on and decide, the designers are drawing and commisioning fabrics for the next season so your bathing suit doesn't come in in October after your vacation.

I know this from seeing it first hand.

@Tantallum I was in Bolingbrook today shopping. Lots of bathing suits already. It made me happy. I hate Chicagoland winters!

I live with four seasons and even though it's winter, I've started sorting and planning my warm seasons wardrobe. I find it fun to do in the dreary grey days. I've found a few clearance items to fill gaps and take care of transitional weather.

I don't want to have to spend time on it when the doors and windows open and fair weather calls. I'm a gardener at heart and if anyone out there is too, you know that opportunity often comes just once - take advantage while you can. Same thing can be said for traditional retail cycles, though with global commerce/e-commerce/re-sellers there's lots out there (if you can pay for it).

Well I don't buy clothes unless I try them on, but I do not wear long sleeved shirts or sweaters. My 'summer' wardrobe is tank tops.

Today is the first morning it's been above 0 and I have a sleeveless shirt on. Yesterday the high was 3.

Here in upstate NY, our wind chill will be -3 today. Summer is not on my mind. For my Florida daughter, however, March will be quite warm so I see that there are places across the country where warm weather will be coming soon. For the rest of us, we'll be putting on our wool sweaters, heavy jeans, and puffy coats for quite some time.

Exactly. I saw cruise wear in Target. Swim suits and summer hats.

Yes, if we've lived long enough, we know that the clothing industry is months ahead of the calendar. It always has been and likely always will be.

However, when the hosts talk about a garment being suitable for another season, it is less to do with the clothing industry season/out of season practice and a lot more to do with getting someone to purchase a garment that will be used frequently and not just put away for any particular season. They believe that the more use a customer can make of a garment, the more likely a customer will be to buy that garment. After all, they didn't say you could not wear it now.

Because you only have 30 days to "love it or return it." By the time the weather is appropriate for you to actually wear the item, and you discover that A- you don't really love it, B - it doesn't fit anymore, or C- it doesn't look nice with any of the rest of your clothes, that window is closed and you are stuck. Retailer wins.

I've made too many bad decisions in the past. I've decided unless I REALLY, REALLY love something, I'm not going to be tempted into buying something that I have no hope of using for months and months. If the selection is picked over by the time I'm ready to buy, so be it. There is always plenty more stuff out there!

I have enjoyed the gardening shows today. These gray, gloomy days are too much sometimes. Thanks QVC for brightening my day. I am so ready for Spring😀😀
