Help with return shipping labels on cardboard boxes, please

When I return an item which has been shipped by QVC in a plastic envelope, I finagle the bag so I can "fold over" the top of the bag over the original mailing label, tape it down and then put their return label on a "clean" side. It seems to work. However, when I have to return something in one of their cardboard boxes, the QVC label is stuck to the box. The QVC return label is so dinky, it won't cover the original label. I feel compelled to "scratch" off the original label as I am concerned the routing information, on the original label, may be picked up in error (and the box shipped back to me!). I would prefer QVC either shrink the size of their mailing label or increase the size of the return label. Please make them the same size! I'd like to ask other shoppers, as I hate trying to remove those labels. Am I being overly cautious?

No because I had a return (not QVC) returned to me that next day for the very reason you have mentioned. Go to your office supply store and buy a roll of sicky-back shipping tape and just use that to cover what you don't want to show. I do it all the time - it works!

I just peel the old lahel off and put the new label in it's spot. I don't have any issues peeling the old one off. To make sure it doesn't fall off, I put tape on it. Knowing me, I'd still do it if the label sizes changed.

You definitely need all the prior info covered OR scratched out. The important parts are the bar codes. If you can, purchase an overlarge black marker. After you place the label over as much of the prior label as possible, take your black marker and simply eliminate the prior coding and label info with the wide marker. I think they're around $3.00 at the store...... sometimes I even put a strip of clear postal tape over the black marker so it won't run if it rains....

Good advice about the boxes. To re-use the plastic shipping bags, just turn them inside out and stick on your label anywhere.

Don't even worry about markers or prior coding. My suggestion - just turn the bag inside out. There is a clean side of the bag where I attach the return label.

Yes, and that idea is EXCELLENT, however I was referring mostly to labels on boxes which can't be turned inside out. Sorry I didn't make that clear....

Just be careful putting tape on it and avoid the new bar codes. The post office might have trouble reading the bar code through the tape....

I just pull the original sticker off, and if it rips partly and I cant get it all off, I just black out anything left with a permanent marker. works fine, I've never had a problem.

one thing I do not do though is reuse those horrible gray and teal bags that clothes come in. they seem so flimsy, I didn't even think you could do that. I end up buying large padded envelopes on my own dime and shipping stuff back that way.

Does everyone re-use those Q bags to return??

Just make sure the original barcode (as in the shipping label to you) is covered by the return label. Everything is scanned these days so if the Post Office scans the "wrong" barcode that is how they are returned to you. Will also forward your feedback and suggestion...

I always reuse them, inside out. They are very strong. I fold the open end a couple times, staple it closed, then put tape over the whole end, and it goes fine. It is light, and if you are shipping something light, sometimes the postage can be less than $6.95. You are wasting your $ on padded envelopes.

Thank you, Beth. I always wondered if the label was printed with "magnetic" ink that might be picked up in the scanning process if I didn't completely remove the old label. I will just make sure the barcode is covered😀

I have a huge magic marker I got at Walmart. I just blacken the entire old label and slap the new one on wherever I want it. Just takes a second.

Oh...on the boxes I just "scratch" off the labels. Once I get a corner picked off, the whole label comes off!!

If I can't remove the shipping label easily, I just use a wide black marker and cross out any info. and place the return label over that.
