Why Facebook????

I just can't be the only person on the planet who doesn't want to use Facebook, but for some time now the ONLY way to contact a specific hostt is to go to their Facebook page. There is no way to send an email directly to the host anymore. Know this isn't a new policy, just that I am fed up with Facebook controlling everything we do. Sending an email suggestion to QVC does not work. If they were getting too many direct emails-----well isn't that just too bad. Part of the job and just means that lots of people are watching them.

You are not alone: never been on Facebook and never will. The only place I post is here: it may be a smaller audience but it is one I prefer, esp. now that QVC monitors the boards and takes out offensive and mean-spirited posts.

LOL, well I have a facebook page, but I almost never go there.

I can't really think of a single reason I'd want to contact any host facebook or anywhere else. They're just salesman selling me stuff. Kind of like actors, I wouldn't cross the street to meet my favorite actors.

Facebook is not controllig eveything we do, and sometimes I feel that this is simply the case of not wanting to adapt to change.

There were very similar comments by people years ago claiming they would never use e-mail or computes or cell phones. Times change.

As far as Facebook goes, it is what you make of it. You can create a profile with limited information if you desire. You do not hae to have friends on Facebook if you do not wish.

Quite frankly, ,I cannot imagine there being a pressing need to contact a shopping channel host, but if it is that important to you, create a profile.

I agree. I am a private person and don't see the need to spread my personal information all over the internet. I tried Facebook for a week and found that I didn't like it. My daughter is on it all of the time and I think she shares entirely too much with others. To each her own..............

I think limiting contact with the hosts to one venue does at least two things. It makes it more expedient for that host or assistant to read and organize what needs responses and, more important, it limits stalkers to one venue.

I don't Facebook although I probably should, but only to follow the one family member who has young children and doesn't share into about them except on FB. Probably sad for all of us, but that has just separated most of the family from her. I do know the family is essentially happy, healthy and busy, but that's all.

Not much else FB offers entices me at this stage in my life.

I am a personality that LOVES change.... I always have and will always embrace it. I also LOVE real time electronics and why a shopping channel appealed to me so deeply back in the 80's..... and why I'm fascinated about selling on eBay, etc.

But I abhore Facebook. I really do. I will not put any of our information "out there" .... and I know you can lock out looky-loos but the info is still there. And yes, I am incredibly careful about the info I give to any site.

I DO have a facebook page but it has nothing on it. The only reason I have it is so I can go to the FB page that concerns the subdivision we live in, all the info regarding the HOA etc. is there.... we live on 5 acre parcels and it's hard getting the word out to everyone. I know a lot of people love FB and that's great .....but not me.....

Years ago a family member who was involved with inernet security advised us to stay off Facebook. We did, and have never felt we missed anything.

I know I have grands who do go there, and honestly wish they didn't. But I don't intend to get involved, and never will. I don't feel the need to tell anyone what I had for breakfast, show photos of my family or my home, etc. And honestly, if I can't buy something unless I go to Facebook, I just won't own it.

One thing I bitterly resent, however, is the sales angle some companies employ, saying that this special offer is for Facebook members only, or offering a better price to someone for using Facebook. Offends me and I close accounts with them for this.

I do go on Facebook, but there is a lot of junk on there. Don't care to see photos of what people had to eat at the restaurant that they visited that evening. Probably wouldn't be on there if it wasn't for my HS class. It's quite easy to control what you put on there, as I feel that not everyone needs to know all your personal business. You can be as informative or as descrete as you want. Have no desire to contacl QVC hosts via Facebook.

I have used a Facebook professional page for several years to promote my artwork. You must have a personal page in order to have a professional page. I use my personal page to connect with family and actual friends. I'm able to view the photos and accomplishments of my grandchildren as well as share information with my family and friends in a quick and efficient manner. FB is much easier than email and snail mail, and it's free.

Facebook is exactly what you make it. The user is in complete control. What you post is only seen by the people you choose. What you are allowed to see is chosen by you. I think there are many stories floating around about Facebook is and isn't. It is also an easy way to private message someone so that no one else will never see it. For me, I can have instant chats with my sister who is deaf without going through a telephone interpreter operator. It has totally changed our long distance relationship. I have also connected with dear and lost high school and college friends. We have shared pictures and have been able to catch up with each other. Again, I have chosen who sees this. I am totally in control. Our family also has a seperate group that only our family can see. We are in control of that group. No one sees it but us. I love Facebook.

As @terriebear said, FB is what you choose to make it - as open or locked down as YOU choose. But it's easier to knock the whole thing, or to just repeat horror stories, than admit you don't know *how* to set it up properly. If you don't like what your friends, neighbors and family have to say, *you* can fix that. Get some friends whose posts you DO enjoy.

The incensed, greatly offended, down-the-nose hysteria and paranoia cracks me up. QVC has said, over and over, that they *want* to court a younger audience and increase the number of customers who use social media, have an online lifestyle and also increase online shopping/purchasing from QVC.

This IS the 21st century. Things change; times change. Don't go to FB or participate in it - that's your prerogative. But it comes off as very fuddy-duddy to slam QVC for engaging in the same 21st C merchandising that every other retailer also uses in the same way.

And yep, they are well aware of people threatening to not shop at QVC any more because of such "affronts." Lots of eye-rolling and 'whatevers' in PA these days.

At least when I post here, I can post on a forum related to the product or topic so I can find out more about it.

For those who set up a blank page and then never add to it, what is the point ?

In order to "follow" a business, for example, you need to belong to FB so you will be aware of their entries. For example - Sephora, Ulta or any other company that sells products you might want. Companies offer special coupons, pricing, deals, etc. only on FB sometimes. Saying it's not "fair" that a business does this is, to me, like saying it isn't fair that store A advertises in town X's newspaper but doesn't advertise in (your) town Z's newspaper.

I'm also curious. Would it be possible for you to respond by mentioning to whom you are responding? I didn't read or write anything condescending, and truly did not read anything written by anyone else that I thought was either "down the nose' or an indication that we couldn't figure out how to do Facebook. It's really quite easy - I just don't choose to play on that field.

I am the family geek. I ONLY have a Facebook page to see family postings. I never post and am happy I have that privacy. It is also a BIG time stealer. I would rather spend my time doing fun things than reading about other people's cat who just .....whatever.

Facebook isn't the only way to contact the hosts.

At the bottom of every page/screen on QVC.com, you'll see

"Meet our Hosts"

When you select that, you'll be directed to a page with all the hosts listed.

Click on the name or photo of the person you want to contact.

Off to the right, you'll see the icons to contact them via Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.

But if you'll look next to their photo, for most of them you'll see "My Email."

Click that if you want to send a message.

I also wanted to add a separate comment about Facebook.

As others have said, it's just a tool to be used the way you choose to use it. There's really no need to criticize those who enjoy Facebook, and no need to criticize those who decide not to register. But I do think it's helpful to try using a site, or at least learn all about it, before denigrating it or mocking the people who use it.

The outcome you get is a direct result of what you put into it, and that includes what you decide to post, which pages you "like," and who you add as friends.

It's a free platform mainly because businesses (and individuals) use it for commercial purposes. However, if you take time to learn about the privacy settings, stay up-to-date with the changes, and use the same kind of "safe computing" you use everywhere else on the net (such as not clicking on links unless you're absolutely, positively sure they're safe and reputable), it's a great use of social media.

Just my opinion from using Facebook since about 2008, others' "mileage may vary."
