~Posts removed or edited by Q Social Team?~

I've seen several comments in which posters feel their posts have been allowed to remain but the content has been edited by the moderators surreptitiously and they say there's nothing in the allegedly-edited post to indicate the comment was altered.

For clarification, is this something that's happening? (eta: I don't believe it's being done, and I think it's probably just a misunderstanding.)

My understanding was that a post is allowed to stand "as is" or it's removed completely.

I think it would be helpful to clarify this, since evidently there's an undercurrent of concern about it.

Hi doobdoo, I don't believe the mods would do that. They would either remove it or leave as is

I don't believe they would, either. To my way of thinking it would be unethical to do so, and also I can't imagine that they have the time to try and edit content. I really believe it's just a misunderstanding, and I don't think it's happening.

But since the issue was raised on at least one thread in Community Chat, I thought it might be helpful for the rumor to be directly addressed (before it becomes an urban legend).

My understanding is the same as yours. There are certainly enough posts that have been deleted. If it were possible for mods to simply delete an offending word or sentence, I'm pretty sure we would be able to see some kind of evidence of that. I think it's all or nothing.

DooBdoo........I have not seen this happening although there is extremely uneven moderation on the board. Nothing as blatant as th editing of what's within a post.

I would think there would be no reason for QVC to do this - no benefit to them. If they feel a poster used inappropriate verbiage, I just can't see them in the role of deleting an objectionable word and letting the rest of a thought stand.

I do believe there might be posters who genuinely forgot what they said and might believe something was changed, as well as there being posters who would claim it happened as yet another "attack" on the new forum moderation. We've seen almost every tactic in the book already.

I had a post where I used a word that is apparently a no-no (not an obvious one), and my post came through with *** asterisks where that word would have been. It gave me a chuckle. But it was so instant it had to have been software, not human moderators. If that's what people are mentioning, that's not something the moderators are doing.

Call me stupid, but wouldn't the edit ghosts need our passwords and I.D.'s to sign on to our accounts and delete whatever they see fit? I doubt they have the manpower or time for that.

I think I read that post, and I thought Wow, she's being really safe! because I would not have thought your intended word was a no-no either. Good to know it's a software thing so if it happens to me I won't be surprised.

I've been called worse... probably will be again, too! Although anyone who's seen all the criticisms I've posted would know I've been pretty consistent in my comments about the problems here and the dreadful way the new platform was launched.

Anyway, I don't know the answer... just wanted to pose the question since it seemed to be an assumption a few posters were making.

Honestly I don't think they'd bother when it's simpler to just send the entire post off into the ether. I do think it's good that you brought it up and asked directly rather than let this be a topic that gathers steam though idle chatter. And since you asked respectfully as yo always do, I don't think you're even risking ranking down from Respected to Mere Mortal!

No, mods have access to posts and can edit them, but I'm pretty sure the edit would show up.

Honestly I saw one person think this and then of course the bandwagon came. I think perhaps he was mistaken on what he typed.

Why? It's neither here nor there and it's personal business. I don't know how anyone would know that unless a moderator divulged that information.

I've communicated with several people at QVC customer service and QVC corporate. All of them maintained that they don't consider the Community moderators to be QVC employees. They said no one at QVC can remove posts. Only their third-party vendor can do that. If you have any concerns about the Community, they said to email QVC Social. If you feel the issue wasn't resolved after contacting QVC Social, you can call or email QVC Office of the President. The QVC customer service reps will tell you they don't have anything to do with the Community. Some told me they've been ordered to stay away from the forums; they're not supposed to post or read anything here.

A few weeks ago, I noticed someone posted a profanity with dashes or asterisks so that the entire word wasn't visible. The post was deleted and the explanation was due to use of profanity. I thought that was odd considering I've seen other posts have contained similar cuss words with dashes or asterisks, and those posts remained.

This entire thread shows disrepect for the moderators. It questions their integrity.
