Default FONT SIZE when typing a post: Please make it larger

Sorry if this is a duplication of other requests -- I did a quick search and didn't find a thread on this topic.

One of the frequent complaints I'm seeing is the difficulty reading posts. Some of the formatting is hard on anyone's eyes. The fact that the default font size used when we're typing -- for all devices -- is rather small (in my opinion) significantly contributes to this problem.

I realize we have options to alter our general view of everything we read here (as long as we're signed in), and we can modify the text size/color/style on each of our posts.

However, that sort of customization-by-post doesn't help with the overall appearance of posts.

If this is a system default, perhaps the default font size for the text we enter for all posts from all devices could be increased just a wee bit -- I doubt that would be offensive to any eyes, and might be helpful to many.

Font Size:

"To permanently change font size:

Click on Display
Scroll to Text Size and choose your preferred size and click SAVE."

Font Style

"How can I set the font and keep it there?

You are not able to control the font type and keep it."

Thanks, @Adelina! I've used that setting, and it does increase the appearance of everything on the entire screen (as long as we're signed in). It seems to function like the "zoom in/zoom out" feature on a device. However, when I tried it out before (and did it again now) it didn't control the default font size when we're typing a post.

I'm probably not explaining myself well, though.

Now why does that not surprise me? Hehehe. It seems someone is typing answers from a manual which do not correspond with reality. This is not the first time the so-called answers were wrong (not to mention often they are not user-friendly instructions).

Click on your name in the upper right corner ...... then click on My Settings ...... then Preferences ....... then Display ....... then Text Size, change to X Large ......

That should do the trick !!

@Tinkrbl44, Thanks, but as I said in Post #3, that's not what I'm talking about. The setting for Text Size functions like the "zoom in/zoom out," affects the entire page/screen, and also is ineffective when we're not signed in (since it's a personal, customized setting).

I'm referring to the default font size within the box when we're typing a post. Right now, it appears to default to something around a size 2 and as a result unless we alter that when we type each post it appears quite small for those who are reading and who either haven't adjusted the setting you menition or aren't signed in.

If the default size when we are typing a post were set to, perhaps, a 3 that would alleviate part of the "eye strain" problem many have been noting.

Hope that makes more sense.

1 -- This is the system default font size when we are typing a post.

2 -- This is my edit to increase the font size to a 3.

3 -- This is my edit to change the font size to a 4.

It might be helpful to log out and read this post, and I think the difference will be more clear.

These are very different, and I believe it's the small size in example #1 which makes most of the posts more difficult to read for many posters. Most of us don't want to have to stop and change these things for every post we submit.

It's part of basic ergonomics, and I'm surprised the design wasn't more carefully thought out. What might seem like tiny details can make a huge difference to users.

And there is the factor that you have to keep signing in so many times each day to be able to see the font adjustment you've made. Another unnecessary inconvenience in the new set-up.

I think this is a good suggestion. I've managed to make my viewing more tolerable by saving my text size as Large and adjust my browser's zoom up to somewhere between 125 and 150%, depending on which computer and browser I'm on.

I will add that even after doing so, there is still something about the default font that I see all over the forum pages (which is set at Large now) that seems to "move" to me. I dont know a better way to explain it. Everything just seems to move--ever so slightly wavy, nausea-inducing, etc. The few replies I've seen done in a dark color don't seem to move. Just wondering if I'm the only one. This sounds strange, I know.

This is interesting. On my screen, your #2 is the smallest example. #1 and #3 appear to be the same size and are larger than #2. It makes it seem like font size 4 is the default font. Does anyone else see this differently than I do?

That's very interesting, @NickNack1. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that all 3 aren't identical sentences (which would be odd, but that's the only thing I can think of right now).

I'll try 4 sentences that are identical but I'll place them in a separate post to follow this one, to simplifiy things.

Testing font sizes so we can see how they appear to us when we're logged in and also how they look after we log out.

dooBdoo, those are different sizes. Very strange that the others appeared the way they did. When you quoted my post to you I could see your original post. They appeared the way you wanted them to appear in that one.

I always have to change the fonts before I type because I find this size (3) the easiest to read, and I like the semi-cursive Comic Sans font.

It would be wonderful if each of us could pick our default font and size and not have to change it every time.

Most of us need the larger fonts, why not make them larger to begin with?

The default font size is too small when using the Safari browser on an ipad. This should have been caught and dealt with during Q&A before the Lithium boards were rolled out permanently last summer.

But my guess is that Lithium's message board software is a "one size fits most" and QVC IT didn't think that far ahead to customize it for their customers who tend to be middle aged and above and who need and use reading glasses.
