Poke cake lady...

She was nervous and David must be the kindess man in the world.

Talk about making people feel comfortable

We used to make poke cakes when we were little but just thinking about them makes me gain weight.

We loved them

Our favorite was the vanilla cake with the strawberry jello, vanilla pudding real strawberrys and whipped cream topping

I bought that for my daughter. She has 4 children and is always on the run. She's a stay home mom and cooks often. It's perfect for someone like her

I think the thing that most endears David to us is his inherent kindness, consideration, and humility. He's a very special person, happy dance and all.

Very well said Kachina624. I really enjoy watching David. He truly is incredibly kind and all of the vendors seem to respect him. He’s always been a favorite of mine.

I got to meet him at a Barnes and Noble and his mother a few years ago and he was so nice and really made each person coming to see him feel that they were a friend. He is a very kind and sweet person, one you think you would love to have for a friend and neighbor.

I made that strawberry poke cake last Christmas. It was so easy to do and everyone loved it. I discovered poke cakes on Pinterest, I plan to do some type of lemon one for my sister's birthday next month. I wish I knew about that recipe book, I definitely would have bought one.

I've found poke cake recipe books on Amazon, and got a free one on my Kindle. They are really good and don't require you to be an excellent baker.

I was pretty MEH about it until I saw the apple cake, using the apple pie filling and caramel! I could tear up that cake.

David was sweet. And if his enthusiasm had anything to do with any money he made off the book himself (commission?) it won't make him a millionaire. He was genuine.

I was flipping and saw this -very very hard to watch

It was her response for everything and David was doing his best to coax something else out of her -realizing it wasnt going to happen he carried the pressentation

I have been a poke cake maker for years.

I made a Black Forest Cake for a get together and every time the people invite us, she asks me to bring it.

Devil's food cake mix

large package of cherry jello in hot water (can't remember how much water but I'm sure it's on-line)

a can of cherry pie filling.

I refrigerate and then add whipped cream that I make with powerdered sugar and vanilla.

Recently on FB there was a chocolate peanut butter poke cake that sounded like it was to die for. Chocolate cake, poke holes and drizzle peanut butter mixed with I believe 10x sugar and milk over cake and then it had a peanut butter fluffy icing on top. I live alone and sweets are my downfall so I don't make them - - - I'd have much more weight to lose than I do!

I just did a quick search on Amazon and found at least 15 Poke Cake cookbooks, printed and e-books, including two brand-new ones available for pre-order. Now I need to search for "Cookbook Addicts Anonymous" !!!

Is this a regional thing or a dessert from another time? I live in NYC and never heard of it. I love Jello and can't even imagine it in a cake. I saw the segment and David did a wonderful job.

@Gooday: Black Forest Poke Cake Recipe

1- Box Devil's Food Cake Mix or German Cholocate

1- 3 oz. package Cherry gelatin

1- cup boiling water

1- 20 oz can Cherry pie filling

1- 8oz container whipped topping - room temperature

1- Box and instant vanilla pudding mix

1/2. Cup milk

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Prepare and bake cake mix according to package directions in a 9x 13 pan, let cool.

Mix gelatin and hot water until dissolved. Poke holes all over the cake and slowly spoon on gelatin. Spread cherry pie filling on top. Mix together whipped topping, pudding mix and milk: gently spread over cherries. Chill thoroughly and keep refrigerated until ready to serve.

Friends always requested for me to make this. I forgot about this recipe. SouthernBee
