How Long Do You Boil Corn...

The time for boiling corn on the cob varies alot on the internet! What works for you? Thanks!

I wrap mine in a wet paper towel, stick it in the microwave 3 minutes - perfection! I live alone so bringing out a pot just isn't worth it for one piece of corn. Isn't it 3 minutes in boiling water also?

i boil mine approximately 10 minutes or so and add salt, sugar, and cream to the water.

I have my sugared water boiling rapidly, drop the corn in, boil one minute and turn off the heat for one minute. I hate overcooked corn.

Boiling salted or sugared water....jury is out on that one.

boil 5 minutes, turn heat off and put the cover on the pot to finish cooking approx 10 minutes.

perfect everytime.

If you cook corn on the cob more than 2 to 5 minutes, you won't get that fresh, just picked flavor.

My mother -in -law cooked hers to death for 15 minutes and it was tough and tasteless. Try cooking it for a short time just to see the difference it makes.

I also cook it in the microwave for 2 minutes sometimes, but I like it boiled best.

Perfect answer! I grew up in Iowa, eating super fresh corn right out of the garden.

I have changed to "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray. Works great on corn--you can put on just the right amount, then a little salt. NEVER salt the cooking water, it makes the corn tough. I add about 1 tablespoon of sugar, after the water is boiling.

Haven't tried the microwave, because I always cook at least six ears at a time. Hubby can eat them all in one sitting.

We just cooked some corn a couple of nights ago. We put the corn into the water before turning on the stove. Once the water came to a boil, we boiled the corn (covered) for 2 minutes. It was perfect! This method came from a Betty Crocker cookbook. It also stated that you can just leave the corn in the water (after it has boiled for 2 minutes) until ready to serve. We only left it a few minutes before we were ready to enjoy it.

I'm afraid to share a link, but there is a video on You Tube that answered this question once and for all for me. I put the corn, still in the husks, in the microwave for four or five minutes per ear. If curious, go to youtube and enter a search for Shucking Corn - Clean Ears Every Time No Music 2 MartinCraig4.

His system is easy, and, more importantly, it works. Every. time.

Edited to add: I try to buy a half dozen fresh ears every week through the Summer months. I cook them as above, cut the kernels from the cob and freeze them in air-tight units of 1 or 2 ears. This way we get to enjoy the taste of fresh Summer corn all Winter.

It goes into a large size ziplock bag along with about a tablespoon of water per ear, leave bag open a little for steam to escape, zap 3 min per ear.

Cut the corn off the cobs, put it in a microwave dish,like corning ware ,add a big bunch of real butter,it is perfect. Nuke it, wonderful!!

You got it Just bling! Here in the corn country of the eastern shore of md we (advice from a farmer friend) cook our silver queen just like that. Sugar in water, sometimes add milk, bring to a boil, turn off heat, cover pot, throw in ears and yep, remove after 10 min. Omg, crisp and sweet! In the city where I'm originally from, we boiled it to death! Tough and chewy results but I didnt know. Thats the way mom cooked it.

If I am boiling many ears on the cob I do it for 2 minutes.

My favorite way now is cutting it off the cob and cooking it in some butter in a saute pan for about 2 minutes with some salt/pepper and a sprinkle of smoked paprika.
