I know avocados are good for you but I have not been able to like them. I'm not sure why I don't, but after several tries with different quacamoles I gave up. Did you like them the first time you had them or did need to develop a taste for them? How different do sliced avocados taste vs quacamole?

Have always LOVED avocados even when they were NOT good for you. Had them one time (at a dinner party) stuffed w/shrimp mixture and baked. Delicious! Like them in salad also.

I've always loved avocados right from the first time I tried them. To me, they have kind of a mild buttery, nutty flavor. I prefer just to eat them whole...not in guacamole.

I really like the Haas type, the dark bumpy one. Not so much the green smooth skin.

When I first had them I thought the only way to eat them was with miracle whip S&P.

I didn't have guacamole until I was in my late 20s. Late bloomer in the food department. Now I like them prepared any which way, especially in a green salad.

The way I learned to like, then love avocados was with a specific seasoning

It is called Spike, and has tons of different herbs and spices, plus a little salt.

Sprinkle just a bit on the ripened avocado slice (Hass preferred), and it brings out the buttery and toasty notes...I think you will then enjoy it!

I like avocados and love guacamole but, sadly, after I turned 40 I became allergic to avacados. It took awhile for me to realize that those violent gastro attacks I was having after eating guacamole was a reaction to avocados. I miss those yummy dishes but I do not miss getting sick.

I've always loved them, but particularly the California Haas avocadoes.

I don't really do guacamole much because I know that some places put gross stuff like mayonnaise or sour cream in it (what the heck!!). I used to make it myself, back when I entertained. That stuff just doesn't belong in it - it should just be fresh ingredients and no gunk. Maybe restaurants do that to stretch. Who knows.

@grandma2pkmh This is a Gaylord Hauser product, found in most larger health food stores as well as on-line, Amazon was last place I stocked up. Also found it at World Market (aka Cost Plus) HTH. Will try to post an image of the basic Spike, which has some salt...they also make unsalted, but recommend trying avocados with the regular Spike for a first time.

Great in casseroles, stews, soups, salads...adds so much more flavor but not overly spicy or salty IMHO. They also make VegeSalt which is crazy good but a bit more salty.
