About a year ago, I ordered a large bottle of organic Mexican vanilla from Amazon very inexpensively. I wouldn't trust a product coming from Big Lots to be the real thing.

I bake a lot but after tasting the difference of the higher end Mexican Vanillas, I won't go cheap anymore!!

Pook, where do you get the higher end Mexican vanillas? Do you get the vanilla beans?

The only vanilla beans I ever had was the Madagasgar ones.

I just purchased two sixteen ounce bottles of pure vanilla at Christmas Tree Shops for $5.99 each.

When I saw that price, I scooped them up fast. They had four bottles on the shelf, but I didn't take them all.

i hope the prices comes down soon. The price is crazy high almost everywhere.

@Harpa My SO brought some back from Mexico and he brought so much that I haven't needed to buy any yet but the one I like best is Vane 100% Another one is Totonac's . They were 3 32 oz bottles that he got a good price on. I also had a friend bring me back a bottle of Orlando Organically aged grown natural Vanilla. I haven't searched for them online though since I won't need any for quite a while.

Some years ago, must have been about 25 by now, there was a big scandal about the solution from which Mexican vanilla was made, being toxic. People were advised against buying it. I often wonder if that situation still exists or was it resolved? I haven't heard any more about it. Shortly after that time, my dad bought me a big bottle of vanilla and was assured by the seller that it was "the good stuff". I used it all and nobody got sick.

They sell Mexican vanilla on exclusive site on the internet so I think it would be safe.
