Anyone else eat hat bacon dressing with dandelion over potatoes in the spring?

A rite of spring in our parts, church suppers etc. To cleanse your blood they say. I love it.

No. But, my mother use to make danadelion wine when I was a small child. At least that is what it was called. Of course none of us kids had any of it.

My grandmother made dandelion in a hot salad for my aunts and uncles, I thought it was a German thing. I never liked the taste of it, but my uncle made dandelion wine and I really liked that.LOL

@blackhole99 it is German. Ours is like a sweet-sour gravy served over boiled potatoes.

I could find a Dandelion wine recipe if your thirsty.

My grandfather used to make dandelion wine, this was many years ago and I never tasted it.

I love dandelion! I chop it in 1inch pieces and stir fry with onion and garlic. Then I add cooked coursely chopped potatoes and lots of olive oil and salt.

not dandelion, but sure miss the ramps I grew up eating with fried potatoes & scrambled eggs in the morning..My Mom hated them but my Grandma & Aunt made them for us..yum! They are in right now...

I was raised on dandelion! I would go out there and pick it now, however, not with all the weed killer my DH put down in the past (he's got a new weed puller, thank God), or with the car polution.

Every time he put weed killer on the dandelion, I said he was cutting off our food supply!

We also made dandelion wine, and when I tasted it as a kid, all I could taste was the yeast. It was kind of thick and chalky looking as I remember. Maybe we just didn't let it ferment enough.

One more thing I can say that I've learned from you kind folks on this message board. I did not know that people ate dandelion.

My house up in the mountains has 4 or 5 natural springs and there is an abundance of ramps. The local real mountaineers know where they are and always come and ask if they can pick them. The other thing that my property grows is something they call branch lettuce and they love that too. They always pick some for me. After the tender leaves are cleaned they heat the lettuce and dressing. They even have a Ramp festival and competition with their recipes.

Best to pick it when it is young, when the "poppy" has not come up yet. Later it turns a little bitter. I like the young buds, too.
