This recipe has been in the family for a long time. These cookies are absoulutely addicting! You can make them without the walnuts, but IMO they make them even better! The instant coffee in the frosting gives them a delicious mocha taste.

1/2 Cup butter, softened

1 Cup light brown sugar (packed)

1 Egg

1 Teaspoon vanilla extract

2 1oz. squares of unsweetened chocolate, melted and cooled

2 Cups flour

1/2 Teaspoon baking soda

1/4 Teaspoon salt

3/4 Cup sour cream

1/2 Cup chopped walnuts

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in melted chocolate. Sift dry ingredients together in a small bowl. Add to chocolate mixture alternately with sour cream. Blend well. Stir in walnuts. Drop by teaspoons full 2" apart on parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/4 Cup butter, softened

2 Tablespoons powdered unsweetened cocoa

2 Teaspoons instant coffee

dash of salt

3 cups confectioners sugar

3 Tablespoons milk

1 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla extract

Combine butter, cocoa, instant coffee, salt, and 1 cup of the confectioners sugar and mix well. Add the milk, vanilla, and remaining confectioners sugar. Beat until smooth and creamy.
