Best homemade margarita recipe? Cointreau or Triple Sec?

Anyone have a homemade margarita mix that love? I am experimenting with a bunch of recipes from online but thought I'd ask if anyone here has one they love.

I prefer one without sweet and sour mix (don't really like that stuff).

Anyone have a preference between using Cointreau or Triple Sec in their margaritas?

LOL @Mz iMac! Oh gosh I remember the worm tequila- forgot all about that! It was always part of a drinking game when I was younger- who was going to eat that thing! lol

My favorite -

Beer Margarita

Ingredients:
1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen limeade concentrate
12 fluid ounces tequila
12 fluid ounces water
12 fluid ounces beer (I use Modela)
ice
1 lime, cut into wedges

Directions:
Pour limeade, tequila, water, and beer into a large pitcher. Stir until well-blended, and limeade has melted. Add plenty of ice, and garnish with lime wedges. Adjust with additional water, if needed.

I love a good margarita. I do not like sour mix.

My current recipe:

l 1/2 Silver Patron, 1 Cointreau, 1 Roses Lime Juice; juice of 1/2 to 1 whole lime (depending on taste and size of lime)

My original recipe was 2 Silver Patron, 1 1/2 Triple Sec, 1 Roses Lime and a squeeze of lime and dash a of fresh orange juice...but, I can't handle it any more!

I thought this was interesting reading...I had no clue Cointreau is a triple sec!

Thank you @rrpell that sounds really good! I think adding a few orange slices (like my local Mexian restaurant does) in it would be a nice touch too.

I haven't looked at your link yet but yes I believe the only difference between the Triple sec and Cointreau is the types of oranges used and the amount of alcohol in each. I have Grand Mariner but I don't really like using it in Margaritas as it has a bit of a brandy not to it that kind of throws the margarita flavor off imo.

Thanks again! I will definitely be trying yours and @TeezNu recipe. Not all in one day, mind you, lol, but over the course of the next month or so.

3 parts mix

2 parts tequila

1 part triple sec

Do you prefer on the rocks or frozen? For on the rocks, we really like Ina Garten's "Real Margaritas recipe" - you can google it or find it under the above title on the foodnetwork.com. Ina uses triple sec-I substituted Grand marnier once and it was an expensive mistake-wasn't drinkable at all. And a word of caution-Ina likes her drinks strong!

If you want an easy frozen recipe, I have this one but don't remember where it came from.

1-12 ounce can of frozen lime-aide concentrate (Important to use frozen concentrate-do not substitute)

12 ounces of tequila

4 ounces of triple sec

Fill blender with ice, then add 1/2 of each of the above ingredients; then repeat. You can cut this recipe in half if you can find th 6 ounce can of lime-aide concentrate but can't find it in my area.

If you like a flavored margarita, DH and I love Pioneer Woman's frozen blackberry margaritas but these do take some planning as you have to cook down the blackberries and strain before you can proceed with the margarita but they sure are worth the work! That recipe can be found on the foodnetwork website as well.

I will certainly let you know. I plan on getting the items I don't already have this weekend and will try one of the recipes. It will be fun, lol!

Ha! I guess it does look strong, doesn't it? Well, there's also all that ice.

In my defense, It's been many, many years since I've made a pitcher of margaritas.

BTW, the mixes that I really liked were a brand called 'Masters'. Masters Mixes. I don't know if they still make those, but I DO remember that the mix makes a huge difference. A good mix is important.

This is generally how I like mine too. I don't like to use mixes- I think I've tried them all and only one I really liked beause it wasn't too sweet and didn't make my throat scratchy (weird, I know, but most do for some reason??) but it was at Costco and they no longer carry it. It was not high fructose corn syrup based either.

I bought a bunch of limes and my first one will be the recipe I saw online which is pretty much what you described here except I will add in a few orange slices as well.

Then I will venture on to the other recipes listed here except probably not the mix based ones unless I make my own mix.

Like the both of you, we don't care for mixes either which is why we like the three recipes I posted. The frozen one made with limeaide concentrate is a tad sweet for us but we prefer them on the tart side. But I have made them for a crowd many times and they go fast. Plus it makes a lot and keeps you from making cocktails instead of enjoying your company. You can adjust the sugar used in the Pioneer Woman's recipe-I always taste my berries before cooking them to see how sweet they are and I often cut down on the amount of sugar that is added at mixing time, sometimes not adding it at all. I always use the amount she suggests for cooking the berries because I am afraid if I don't, it will change the consistency of the syrup. For just a cocktail for a few or just us, I use Ina's. I would be interested in seeing your recipes without mixes, too! The holiday weekend will be here soon-great timing on this thread! It's still hot, hot, hot here!

@BExplorer this sounded interesting since I don't really like the premade mix. I had all the ingredients in the house except the can of limeade. I bought one today....I'm drinking it right now and it's delicious! Thank you. I wish I had known this at the beginning of the summer.
