I will suggest a fillet of salmon. It ranks high in protein, good nutrients and the kind of good fat doctors want us to have. It's a heart healthy food.

You can fry it in a nonstick pan or bake it in your oven. Many people grill it.

There are many, many ways to flavor it, you will find A LOT of recipes to choose from.

If you are interested and want ideas, let me know what you like and I will try to come up with a few recipes for you.

if you'd like to start at breakfast, here is a link for a muffin in a cup that is done in less than 2 min. It is high in protein very low carb, and high fiber. It has all the great stuff in flax seed. I use a packet of Splenda, a dash of vanilla and blueberries:

http://www.food.com/recipe/one-minute-flax-muffin-low-carb-295649

All is mixed in the cup, and I zap for 1 min and 50 sec.

I make this every a.m and it is perfect with real unsalted butter while hot.

Congratulations.

Consider making smoothies. I have a Vitamix but you don't need one to make a good smoothie. You can use any kind of fruits or veggies and I always add a good protein, like a good yogurt with high protein or ricotta cheese. You really can't taste it.

If you are looking just at fish, don't ignore canned fish. You can prepare tuna salad or even salmon salad. Also salmon cakes, find a recipe for crab cakes & substitute canned salmon.

@CJ111 wrote:

Hi everyone! Had gastric sleeve surgery 14 months ago and I'm always looking for more protein in my food. This is more of a technique than a recipe.

You can take any type of fish fillet (mahi mahi, snapper, grouper, etc.) or steak (such as a salmon steak), sprinkle with some fresh lemon juice and let it marinate for half hour, (don't let it marinate too long or the acid in the lemon will start to "cook" the fish and ruin the texture) pat dry then brush both sides with a little olive oil, season with salt and pepper (I actually use Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning instead of salt) and grill using a cast iron or non-stick grill pan.

After about five or six minutes, it should be ready to flip. You'll know when the edges look cooked and the fish releases easily from the pan. Then cook for another three to five minutes, since the second side will need to cook a little less than the first side. So easy and quick.

BTW, I just did this with a catfish fillet using my hard anodized grill pan and it was delicious. Serve with lemon wedges; I also had a little hot sauce too, but I like it spicy! The fillet should be around an inch thick, although a little more or less won't hurt. Also, choose a firm fleshed fish since a fillet that's too thin or delicate might break apart.

Once you get the hang of it, you can season your fish so many ways: sprinkle with a little Italian seasoning along with the salt and pepper, or at the end of grilling brush each side with teriyaki sauce and grill for a few seconds more on each side, or brush with lemon butter seasoned with a little Old Bay Seasoning and a dash of Tabasco sauce. You'll only be limited by your imagination.

Hope this helps.

I like to bake halibut in my covered Corning Ware dish. I just salt & pepper it, put some pats of butter on top, and sprinkle lemon juice over it. I baked @ 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. It always came out moist and flaky! Super easy! *I am sure you could do this with salmon as well!!

I eat salmon a lot.

I make mine so easy... I put A-1 sauce on my salmon fillets, then sprinkle with some garlic powder. That's it.

I bake it for 30 min. in a 350 degree oven. (I don't like any gooey fish meat... so I bake it for 1/2 hour). It always tastes like I had it on a woodfire grill or something. I find it very enjoyable. I then use the salmon I have left in a salad the next day and it takes on that grilled taste which adds to the flavor of the salad.

Have fun exploring more recipes!

Garlic, lemon, onion, sour cream and butter should get married and procreate to make the world a happy place.
