There is conversation in Community Chat about Spaghetti Pie. Some have never heard of it, so I thought I'd share a recipe I have had for about thirty years.

Spaghetti Pie

6 ounces spaghetti – cooked al dente and drained
2 Tablespoons butter
½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
2 eggs, beaten
1 lb. ground chuck
½ cup onion, chopped
1/4 cup green pepper, chopped
8 ounces tomatoes, undrained (Preferably Italian plum tomatoes)
6 ounces tomato paste
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 clove garlic, minced
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup ricotta
½ cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Combine hot drained spaghetti with butter, Parmesan cheese and eggs. Press into a buttered 10" pie plate to form a crust.

Sauté meat, onion and green pepper until meat is browned. Drain off fat. Stir tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, garlic and salt into meat.

Spread ricotta cheese over crust. Fill with meat mixture. Bake, uncovered, in 350º oven for 20 minutes.

Sprinkle mozzarella cheese atop. Bake 5 to 10 minutes more until cheese is melted.

Thank you! My daughter gave me a recipe for spaghetti pie but it doesn't have the ricotta cheese. Your recipe sounds yummier!

I recommend Giada's recipe for Baked Angel Hair and Eggplant. My family refers to it as spaghetti pie and it's like a spaghetti pie taken to the next level. It is so delicious and hearty and perfect for a fall or winter night. I don't eat meat so I sub soy Italian sausage for the sausage and my non-meat eaters who have eaten both versions say it's just as good.
