We eat very little red meat and have eliminated so many of the other things other posters have. I find that eating oatmeal with dried berries and a tiny bit of chopped nuts for breakfast is tasty and satisfying. We eat baked sweet potatoes frequently, as well as wild salmon and chicken. We've cut out butter entirely and have learned to season food with the right spices. You can entirely avoid salt this way. We specifically like the no-salt spice blends offered by Penzeys Spices. You can look them up on line-they also offer a wonderful catalog. For a treat, we enjoy fruit or yogurt bars. Changing your eating habits is not easy, but it's amazing how we can all adapt to healthier eating habits by slowly changing.

Going to go to the white meats. Chicken, turkey, maybe pork now and then, but more fish for sure. I need a real boost to get the scale going south again for me. We're kind of stuck and so it's time for a shift in the old plan.

When you get stuck what are you doing? Changes in what you eat. I'm trying to eat some less than I have been too. Got to get that scale to budge. It's being stubborn!!

I used to eat beef almost daily. Now if I do that I'm miserable. We made a brisket & slab of ribs & ate on that brisket for almost a week. I have been eating a lot of chicken since. I like to have a good steak once a week or at least every other week & also a hamburger. We eat more chicken & pork now. I have lost weight since I saw the doctor last. He told me I had lost 20 lbs since I saw him last year. I said I knew I lost a few lbs but did not realize it was 20 lbs. I have lost some more weight since I saw him in Apr. I keep having bouts being nauseous & I don't eat much when I feel like that. I told the doctor about it when I saw him in Apr but it's still going on. I think he thinks it's from my gallbladder since he had me do a Hida scan & I need it removed. When I get up in the morning if I drink some water on an empty stomach I get real nauseated start sweating & about pass out. I'm not sure what's going on. The only good thing about it is the weight loss.

Hey Qgal--I know what you mean! I have found that while I have cut back on eating meat of any kind, I have been trying to eliminated the refined white things, like pasta, breads, white rice, potatoes and anything that has more than 6 grams of sugar in it. I've lost alot of weight that way. Instead of pasta, I make the zucchini noodles (zoodles) and that is amazing at how good it taste. When I do eat rice, I eat brown rice and for bread I eat a sprouted grain bread like Ezekial brand. The meat I eat sparingly, only the size of a deck of cards. My downfall is sweets---but I eat 2 oz of good choc a day. Start out with something you can easily do, not the whole thing right away. And then just find out what a portion size of anything is and JUST eat that. I also drink super green smoothies every morning and am able to get most of my veggies in per day. Fruit is something I eat but not alot off as they have alot of sugar altho its not refined. Maybe start with eliminating one bad thing a week and see how you do. And of course---exercising will help too. Good luck

Ref healthier eating, someone told me Dr Oz said on TV he had been eating a lot of fish because it's healthier, and he found out he has excessively high levels of mercury in his system. I haven't heard anything else -- whether he has been able to lower the levels or what he's trying to do about it. I love brown rice, now they've announced it absorbs more arsenic from water pollution than white rice does.

I like your hint to try to change one small thing a week. I also like what Lewis Grizzard said, "Someone should tell the Surgeon General that worry kills!"

This is a helpful discussion. Thanks for starting it.

I eat beef almost every day and I am very healthy! In fact, I lost 90 lbs---eating beef almost every day. If you want to get healthy, cut out sugar, not beef.

I cut back on beef when all the problems with e-coli started appearing. I never buy ground beef and probably eat two hambugers a year. I have an occasional steak but that is about it.
