Just wanted to share my homemade marinara sauce recipe.

28 oz of crushed tomatoes (or if you can a quart)

2 cloves of crushed garlic

1 small onion diced

big handful of freshed chopped basil

1/2 T of sugar

1 tsp. of salt

In saucepan - heat up olive oil and brown onion - right before finished add the garlic and saute. Then add crushed tomatoes and sugar and salt. Bring to small boil and then cover and simmer very low for about 20 - 25 minutes.

Sooooo good!

I use Sweet Vidalia onions because I like milder onions.

At what point did you put the fresh basil in?

You don't want to cook it too much or it will lose its "fresh" flavor.

Thanks for posting soldier/wife. Also thank your husband for his service. I went right out to the kitchen and made a double batch. I did add more sugar as the cans of tomatoes were a little bitter. It is excellent. I am going to freeze half of it and keep the rest in the refrigerator. Marinara sauce is better for me due to acid reflux but I can have it in limited portions.

Hope all of you have a safe and happy July 4th weekend.

I am going to use this like a spaghetti sauce over zucchini noodles that have been shredded into long strips. I will add mushrooms and maybe some green peppers that I brown before adding to the sauce, as I am not a big meat lover. It would also be good over spaghetti squash. I used the dried basil and it was very good in the sauce. I don't like a strong basil taste of the fresh. I am glad we all post a favorite recipe that others would like. Thanks to all.
