I have made the vanilla and the chocolate. I use fat free half & half for the ice cubes. Regular ice cubes made it more of a ice milk than cream. Using the half & half cubes makes a much better product.

Today in the Vitamix presentation they showed a recipe making ice cream from frozen cubes of 2% milk with vanilla etc. they said the recipe was either in your cookbook or online. I can't find it in either place. Anyone have it please? Thanks!

Martha~ I went back to the video for the presentation of K41173 and while he didn't give measurements the ingredients are:

milk, sugar, non-fat dry milk, vanilla, and 2% milk ice cubes. The demo is around the 6:10 point if you want to see it. It looks like a whole tray of cubes (made from 2% milk) and probably a cup of a mix of the other ingredients? hope that helps

The recipe in the cookbook is below. Don't know if he used part or all of the half & half or whole milk for the ice cubes since there is liquid in the bottom of the container. Maybe he used 1 cup milk plus the 4 cups ice cubes made with milk??? I would say you would probably need 2 ice cube trays filled with milk to make the 4 cups ice cubes needed for the recipe.

Vanilla Ice Cream

1 cup half & half or whole milk

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup nonfat dry milk (optional)

1 tsp Vanilla

4 cups ice cubes

Place ingredients in Vitamix, select variable 1 & quickly increase speed to variable 10.

Use tamper to press ingredients into the blades.

In 30-60 seconds the sound of the motor will change & 4 mounds should form when done.

Yields 5 cups

You can make this recipe lower in fat by using nonfat milk or soy milk in place of half & half or whole milk.

So how many ice cubes (if using half and half ice cubes) do you put in the machine? Then you put sugar and vanilla/chocolate in too? What kind of liquid goes in to help grind it up? Please explain all, as I would like to try this. But caution....I am kitchen challenged. So please provide specific and simple instructions, lol.
