I've been tryng a new recipe a week for a few months now. Most have been ok --a few were good --others , not so much.

Last night I tried something called Arayes---crispy pitas stuffed with spiced meat. Annnnddd......not great the meat mixture was really good, but cooking it in pitas on a grill--was not easy and I ended up taking off the pita and just eating the meat. I used garam masala spice that is so flavorful and good in the meat mixture--the meat was beef, but the pitas tore altho they did get those great grill marks but got too soggy from the meat juices. I think putting the meat patty in a normal pita would be better--then putting in all the fixings for a nice sammie. I can see crisp lettuce, tomatoes and tzaztiki--wow--spelling that word is tough---sauce or hummus or tahini sauce would be good.

The recipe called for stuffing the meat mixture into the pitas, that were cut in half and then opened up, then brushing with olive oile on the outside and then grilling them ----think I used too much oil and also my pitas ripped while trying to open them up to put in the meat--think your suggestion would have been the way to go. Then I think the meat was over cooked too---it has to be at 160-165* and with the pitas, I think I'm going over cooked. But I will try them for lunch today--wish I had some cucumber sauce-----

I commend you for trying new recipes. I just put something in the oven called Forgotten Chicken. I saw it on the internet and it looked easy. Basically, a base of uncooked rice on the bottom of a casserole dish. Sauce is a cup and a quarter of water whisked with a can of cream of chicken soup. Lay four chicken breasts on top. Then sprinkle with dry onion soup mix. Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350 for one and a half hours.

I wouldn't say it's eye pleasing, but it smells great while baking.

This week, I didn't use anything but my trusty little Breville oven--love that thing so much!! Found a recipe for a one called--Crispy salmon rice bowl--came from Eating Well and it was a winner. DD and I do enjoy a good rice bowl dinner. This one had the salmon and brown rice --then a few other veggies and my WONDERFUL homemade teriyake sauce. Serve a fresh fruit salad and that was all--Easy and very healthy.

It is so easy and has no oils in it altho i suppose you can add sesame oil for more flavor----

1 cup low sodium soy sauce

1 cup water

1 cup brown sugar

1 Tbsp worchestershire sauce

2 tbsp dried onion flakes

2 Tbsp minced garlic

1/2 tsp powder ginger

I whisk it together to dissolve the br sugar and pour it into a large jar. Add to your protein and let marinate for a couple hours. It does last quite awhile in the refer altho, I use it up in alot of my meals. Fresh ginger would taste good and add pepper flakes if wanted. Makes alot too. I usually make 1/2 recipe at a time and to thicken it for a sauce --add a cornstarch slurry. enjoy!!

I revisited an old, delicious recipe---Patty Melts--Sunday for dinner. Cooked up some sweet onions, nice and slow--about 25 min until they were soft and browned, then added mushrooms --we like mushies ----and then added a splash of apple cider vinegar--OH my gosh!! what a lovely taste that added. then used 85/15 ground beef --1 lb--only I patted the whole thing flat into a hot-ish fry pan , seasoned with Montreal steak seasoning and let that baby fry until it was a crusty brown, then flipped it over to the other side. Toasted my bread and added cheese to mine--DD doesn't do cheese. Put it all together with assorted condiments and WOW---was that good!!! the meat was a little greasy--but very flavorful---I usually use 90/10, but I put it on some paper towels to drain. Divided the huge meat patty into 1/2s, ate a 1/4 so there is that much left for a nice little melt for lunch. an oldie but a goodie.
