Favorite cookbook

Just curious,what is your favorite cookbook,not website,just a old fashioned cookbook. Every Christmas I get,from my daughter,southern livings annual cookbook. I always liked the recipes in there magazine. One day I saw an older cookbook on sale. Mostly the recipes were sent in by everyday cooks,and I just feel in love with it. Don't know how many I've had,but I know it was 1986 or before. No,I didn't keep them. Keep them for a few years,type out my favorite recipes and now have three binders of recipes. Give my cookbooks to my DIL or donate to the library for there annual book sale.

@Epicurean , I can't choose just one, but the one I use the most is my notebook. This is a compilation of favorite recipes from friends and family. If the dish is delicious it gets added and repeated over and over.

@Epicurean I love to read cookbooks for recreation and edification! Some of my favorites are the local church cookbooks from our area and my DD's church. But, without a doubt, my favorite go-to is The Mennonite Community Cookbook. My Mom cooked from this, and I still have her copy. My grandmother has a recipe in the book, and I think of her every time I go to that recipe. I prefer the earlier editions, because they changed some of the recipes in the later editions. I don't know why. Mom's was the original edition from 1950

The Joy of Cooking, I think it is from 1954 or so, it was my moms. The other is Julia Child's The Way to Cook.

We rescue cats,I have had my Joy of Cooking since I got married,it was a wedding gift.Have. Had it for 55 yrs! 😁

@Epicurean My favorite cookbook is one that my mom had. It was called Gardener's Gatherings. Recipes were submitted by members of the Garden Club at Palm Coast Florida. I still have it and it has to be at least 40 years old. The recipes are amazing.

A true keepsake.

I compare most recipes to my Joy of Cooking from 1968 or 1969. It has stood me in good stead for 56 years of cooking so far. I also love the Marsha Adams cookbooks. Her recipes are Amish-based, and very good!!

I have a lot, over 100, of cookbooks from everywhere and read recipes on line almost every day.

The cookbook that I have had the longest and really do use is The Fannie Farmer Cook Book. My edition is old. It has been updated many times.

What I like about it is that it is basic old fashioned cooking. It explains everything in easy to understand language and everything in it is normal every day food.

Even though I am a pretty accomplished cook, I find myself looking up stuff in the book like substitutions, oven temps, how long to cook a roast, etc.

I got my cookbook as a gift from my sister. She has purchased one for every new married couple for years. It's a must have for every kitchen.

I haven't referred to a cookbook in years since the internet contains various iterations of anything one would want to cook.

When I did use cookbooks, I had an assortment from churches and schools that were my most used. Recipes that real everyday folks ate. The yellow Pillsbury binder style cookbook was the first one I ever own, received as a bridal shower gift. The red Betty Crocker one, too. The Joy of Cooking was too much fancy food for me, so it looked good lined up by the rest but seldom used.

Jane Brody's Good Food Book. It's a large paperback version and I've purchased 3 or 4 copies of it. I used to loan it out and occasionally it would not be returned.

I had so many cookbooks--none that I ever used for more than a few recipes.I donated most of them a few years ago--after I took photos of those few recipes--I mostly go online now. I do get the quarterly magazines from Delish tho---and they are full of really good recipes. I have one huge, heavy cookbook I got from Americas Test Kitchen--was the 2022 edition that had all of their seasons shows recipes---THAT thing is so heavy --have to put it on a talbe to page thru it.

@Lilysmom1 I have several of the ATK cookbooks, and they are very enlightening; but, I sometimes find them to be too complicated for me. I volunteer to be one of their test kitchen home testers, and the recipes often call for equipment I don't have or ingredients that are difficult to find.

I do enjoy their videos and find them useful at times.

My first up would be Better Homes and Gardens 'New Cook Book' --a special edition of the 65th anniversary

it is really torn up. So I guess it has been well used. I like the way it has been arranged. It is easy to use because of the indexed pages.

I have a bookcase full of cook books and cannot part with them for the most part. I do sometimes donate a few that have just taken up space. It seems that there are just a few that have one or 2 of my favorite recipes. I love having them though so I tend to keep what makes me happy.

I have a goodwill find from years ago(published in 1998) Mr. Food a taste of QVC. A recipe that is my go to for Thanksgiving and potlucks is DV's Baked Corn Casserole. This even has a touch of humor from Joan Rivers very simple recipe. Toast--2 slices of white bread/2 pats of butter or magarine--with a note to spread butter after removing from toaster. For special occasions use raisin bread. She said the recipe had been in her family for years and perfected.--👌😊😊

Julia Child: The Art of French Cooking.

Cook your way through this, even if you don't have the exact ingredients do the best you can with what you can find.

IF you do this, learn the processes will, and pay attention, you will know every basic skill you need to cook anything.

I did that in the 1970's and I am a great cook and not afraid to try to cook anything no matter how complicated or simple! You have to work to learn!

I have a few cook books but my favorite is Pinterest.

It is easy to change amounts for smaller portions!

All my cookbooks seem to be for enough to feed a family!

@Epicurean My favorite is a cookbook that belonged to my mom that passed away at 84. It is called BELL SOUTH's BEST & it has a vast array of recipes.
