A whole chicken, it wasn't cooked to death. Yes, I agree it sounded too good to be true. The thing I don't like about grocery store rotisserie chickens is that the breast is always so dry. For some reason, this one wasn't.

Found a recipe for crockpot chicken and, although it was so easy, I didn't have high hopes. I like to buy grocery store rotisserie chickens and use the meat throughout the week for added protein in my salads. I got a whole chicken in my local meat market's monthly special and, since I have never successfully learned to cut up one, thought I'd give this a try. I was nicely surprised by how it turned out.

Sprinkle whole chicken liberally with paprika and garlic powder. Cook in crockpot on high for 5 hours.

I added salt to the cavity and lightly on the outside.

I will do this again, adding different spices to those mentioned. The broth will be frozen for other uses later in the year.

A whole chicken in the crockpot is one of my favorite things to make! I can take the meat apart for a soup, have the chicken with veggies, stuffing or potatoes, or use the chicken to make fajitas.........I find the possibilities are endless and a small roaster goes a long way for DH and I.

It is fairly simple as you stated @Carolina925 for what comes out to be a delicious meal.

Many times for me I just put some broth in the crock pot, salt and pepper and fresh herbs in bunches with the chicken.

I like the idea of the paprika and garlic powder too, thanks for sharing.

When kids were still home to retirement (and still), I like to fix a big entree on Sunday and then use it until gone. If any is left on Thursday, it goes into the freezer in single serve containers.

Chicken was one of my favorite things to put in the crockpot on Sundays. I used it to make everything from enchiladas, seasoned chicken, casseroles, stews, tortellini soup, cabbage soup, and dozens of other recipes over the years. There are some reputable sites that offer good ideas too.

I'm craving soups now that we're in September. It's still too hot here but I can freeze servings for later.

Wish I could look at a whole chicken without gagging. At butchering time, whole ones would be put in bread bags and put in the freezer. My parents would order a dozen at a time from a chicken farmer.

I got it from the butcher and it wasn't specified on the package. My crockpot is a 7 quart, I believe, and the chicken filled the pot. I know this isn't much help. I would think any size would do, just adjust the time for a smaller bird.
