SOFT MEAL RECS AFTER DENTAL SURGERY?

My SO will be having a rather involved dental surgery in a couple weeks. He's already eating cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, applesauce and soup. And protein shakes.

I'm wondering if you have any soft meals or casseroles that could be eaten after dental surgery. I need new ideas.

All suggestions welcome.... TIA.

I've had to do that, an implant and TMJ. Besides what you listed...macaroni and cheese, yogurt, soup over mashed potatoes, toast (eat carefully). I got sick of sweets. Cream of wheat. I have to watch my carbs, so it was tough. Lots of eggs. 😀

Yogurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, sour cream, mashed bananas, macaroni dishes. I am sure he will be told what to eat after the surgery.

Pasta dishes like angel hair or cheese ravioli cut up into small bite size pieces, cooked to be soft, and then with multiple different types of sauces.....MMMM, yummy, with or without dental surgery!

Creamy soup--tons of flavors!

Many "soft" foods are HIGH CALORIE, so keep that in mind...

NEVER drink anything thru a straw!

I minced or shred regular meals (until it looked like cat food).

@Janey2 I recently had dental surgery...they did not tell me specifically what to eat, only to eat soft food.

You can also try a variety of savory dips, soft french toast, crustless quiche, stuffed clams, creamed soups, split pea soup etc Good luck!

I had implants a couple years ago and had flipper teeth while I healed (6 months). I ate pancakes, oatmeal, soup and lots of eggs. I found I had to cut most stuff up since I had no front teeth (uppers).

If he's a meat eater, you know you can simply blend up the meat as you would do for a baby. Just add a bit of broth to help with consistency.

It will help with that craving for his favorite protein.

Seriously, consider looking at the baby food isle for ideas!

Well mashed up tuna with a little mayo. No celery or other crunchy veggies. Fresh cooked fish is very tender like salmon, scallops, etc.

How soft is soft?

Mince or grind cooked meat. add it into gravy. make a well in mashed potatoes fill the well with the meat and gravy.

Mashed winter squash.

Carrot and Parsnip Puree.

Baked haddock or similar white flakefish.

Souffle?

I'm almost done with my implant procedure. @Tinkrbl44. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the mouth heals. What you have listed should get you through the first couple of days, but you likely won't need to be careful much longer than that. Maybe include some yogurts, mashed potatoes or mashed cauliflower, Cooked veggies work too. You can use zucchini as a pasta replacement with a meaty marinara sauce.

@Desertdi I've had MANY dental surgeries.

Like you, I pureed all my regular food for at least a week because I wanted the exact same level of nutrition I normally have.

And...YES...it does look like cat food!!

I don't have anything to add to soft food suggestions here. But, several years ago after some dental surgery, I had trouble opening my mouth enough to use a spoon for a couple of days. The only thing that worked was using a baby cereal spoon! Good thing I saved a couple from grandchildren visits! Just an add-on if needed.

Wonderful suggestions.

Pudding cups for a snack. There are a variety now of sugar-free and fat free. My treat with a past dental implant was Swiss Miss Butterscotch (regualr) and Jello low fat vanilla. Small servings for calorie/carb conscious.

Glucerna or Ensure drinks. I keep chocolate Glucerna in the refrigerator. I'ved used it after different surgeries to break a fast. Raises the energy and satisfies hunger pangs.

Shake it up for a "milk shake".

If you have a blender or food processor, you can make any food where it is edible. Even a grilled steak! Just make it to a consistancy where you won't really have to chew it just mush it.
