Lately I've been hooked on watching videos on You Tube, especially a woman from AL named Karen Jones. She's fun to watch and her recipes are typical "home cook" style. Stuff most of us would enjoy cooking and eating. Occasionally, her husband will pop in and add a bit to her show, but he's not annoying. If anyone has the time or inclination, check her out. I think some of you would enjoy her. No happy dance, either.

I enjoy YouTube for a number of reasons, finding it an excellent resource for everything from repairing my ice maker to enjoying interviews with interesting people. The venue has become very lucrative, including the revenue a channel makes from YouTube monetization and also the retail sales of merchandise usually linked in video descriptions. It can be a boon for small enterprises.👍 Thank you, @coffee drinker and @PansyBoo for the recommendation!😊

@dooBdoo not sure why its "important to note" that YouTubers make money when people view their videos after someone makes a recommendation about someone they like watching.

It does not cost the watcher a dime out of pocket so i dont understand the warning.

Greetings, @LizzieInSRQ!😊 I'm sorry. I probably worded that poorly so I'll change it. I made the post as a follow-up to other discussions here about the monetized system and sales in the video descriptions. My goal is always to be helpful, but for sure I don't always meet that goal -- I didn't intend to discount @coffee drinker's and @PansyBoo's kind recommendations... I hearted their posts from the start but I should have also thanked her, and also @PansyBoo. I'm fighting a nasty ol GI virus and fever, which evidently is getting the best of me... and I need to think more carefully before I write... well, probably always need to be more careful about what and when I write.

Thank you for your post -- it was good of you to point this out -- and my apologies for any misunderstanding.❤️

@dooBdoo, no apologies or regrets due at all from you. You are a kind and wonderful poster here. I do hear you about Youtube and certainly appreciate your point.

And as far as Karen Jones goes, I just happened to have seen some of her videos and I enjoy them like @coffee drinker said. She is a country cook from Alabama? I think. Recipes are nothing special but I do enjoy watching her as she has a calm and comforting demeanor.

Thank you, @PansyBoo. That is kind of you to say.❤️ I feel so bad when I create a misunderstanding, and I'm always most appreciative when someone lets me know. I didn't word it well, so it was really my mistake. I went over there (Karen Jones Food & Family) after seeing the thread first off, to watch and listen. I'm not a very good cook, so I need the long videos rather than the shorts😉.

Yes! From Alabama, part of my "neck of the woods" and home to some of my wonderful cousins and friends! I love listening to her accent and... just like I do... hearing her make words like "bun" and "pan" into melodic, multisyllabic words!

@coffee drinker : Thanks for sharing this info. Wish I had seen this earlier today. I watched her video for hamburger steak. I cooked today for our lunch after church tomorrow . I am having a lot of cooking failures. I am 69 and struggling with good results. I started out with 6 big hamburger steaks and they shrunk to about 3 inches. I made gravy but the steaks still looked hard. I will be watching more videos.

@SouthernBee Believe me, I'm no expert coo, but enjoy cooking. If you want an easy to follow cookbook, check out Mr. Food "The ultimate cooking cookbook for two." Yes, the book is geared for 2 people, but makes enough with leftovers. I bought mine (used copy) from Thriftbooks dot com. Very reasonable price and condition. You may get better results.

Thanks for the recommendation. If I'm watching tv, it's usually YouTube. There are so many talented people and some of the productions are better than network shows. I will look for Karen Jones.

If you're not familiar with the FOOD 52 channel on YouTube, I encourage you to try it out. So many extraordinary bakers and chefs!

@house_cat --- and thank you for the Food 52 recommendation. I will definitely check it out. Now, instead of getting to bed around 2-2:30 AM, I may add another hour to my nightly viewing. It's amazing how one could get along on 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

It's amazing just how much stuff, good and bad on UT. I find myself watching the stray animals who have been so badly neglected. If I weren't so old, 77, I'd adopt in a minute. Although I'm in decent health, IMO, I worry who would take care of one of these critters if something should happen.

One more thing before I check out Food 52 --

Without mentioning names or programs, I hear you about "productions better than network shows." I totally agree.

ETA If you like Italian cooking and food, check out Sip and Feast also on YT. Nothing exotic, just every day Italian cooking.

@coffee drinker : Different recipes and taste.😀😀😀 Some southerners call cornbread made with eggs: Egg bread. Some southerners prefer a sweet cornbread. Some southerners prefer butter milk added instead of regular milk. Today, I was lazy and used a cornbread mix.

What kind of thoughtful person you are, there’s not a lot of people around anymore like that they become harder to find. I never really did like all the ads in those videos just seem like this last year they just skyrocketed. 🐸

I like to watch Brenda Gantt cooking videos. She is also from Alabama. She is a retired grade school teacher and demonstrates southern country cooking. Her videos remind me of my mother's cooking.

My Mama used to make fried pies like Brenda does on her videos. Mama would dry sliced apples from our apple trees outside on big tables in the sun. Those (the dried apples) were put up to be used in the winter time. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about those times.
