Yes--most things have gotten smaller but cost more--choc chips are one as are all the boxed cereals---

All those items have been getting smaller for years. This is nothing new. I remember discussing the smaller cake mixes here.

@crazered They are much smaller to the point you can no longer use your standard pans. You can make them the original size by adding additional flour and baking powder. There are the correct measurement online. I'm guessing but it may be 6 Tbsp flour and 1 tsp baking powder.

Cake Upsizer

1 1/2 cups AP flour

1 cup sugar

2 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. baking soda

Mix together and keep in freezer container and store freezer.

Add 6 Tbsp. to your cake mix.

If I have to add all those ingredients to bring a boxed cake mix up to normal size, I may as well make my own from scratch. Not that hard!

Yes, as has been stated, they are smaller. But I am a firm believer in that size does matter! LOL. I rather make a cake by scratch myself if I have to doctor up the recipe like that.

As we see shrinkage in most packaging these days, it really takes the cake when a ready made pound cake is no longer 16 ounces. No pun intended.

The cake mixes lost 3 ounces that equals to 6 cupcakes of batter, the cake upsizer does alot of cake mixes. I just keep in freezer until I need it.

I agree....YEARS AGO they changed them down to a smaller size!

I don't use box mixes any more, scratch only.

This has been discussed here many years ago, you are right. Here is where I learned of the formula for the size upper. Have done this for years.
