If you add anything to the cooking water, it can 'tint' the white of the egg. I had put some turmeric in the water, and the eggs came out a dull yellow. I wonder if you used food coloring, if you could get colored inside-out eggs for Easter?

For anyone having problems using their PC for the first times: Make sure the gasket in place, and you have your weight, (pressure valve) in the right position. If either of those items are not right-it will not come to pressure. Also, remember to add some sort of liquid, (water, broth, etc.). It needs the liquid to make the steam.

I decided to be brave and make kale. Wow. Done in two minutes under steam. Looking for what to cook next. Any suggestions?

Boop

My new PC is sitting on the counter waiting for it's first try. Looking at all the detailed directions that came with it made me less interested. I know I need to jump in. I'm also looking for something simple to try.

Yahoo for a new pressure cooker!! I've had one for many years now and use it ALL the time!! I recommend Bob Wardens first p/c cookbook--it is the best!! I made his mac-n-cheese first and it was so good. Soups are easy peasy too. Or throw in a whole chicken with water and seasonings and some veg. Then you'll have the meat and delicious stock for other things. Lots of recipes on line too.

Maybe try making some specialty rice and/or grains. I have made brown rice, farro, barley, etc. These are items that I don't like to make in a pot on the stove as it takes too long, and if you get distracted-it will burn. Add a teaspoon of oil so it doesn't foam.

Try wagirl's directions for chicken, then when it's done make simple biscuit-type dumplings. You can use Bisquick or find a recipe online. Drop the dough by tablespoons full into simmering liquid uncovered for five minutes, then steam with the lid on loosely for five minutes. This may be my #1 favorite PC meal.

My pressure cooker has become my favorite kitchen appliance. So much so, that I bought a smaller one since it is generally just the two of us. A couple of the quick, easy things I use mine for are hard boiled eggs (steamed, actually) and potatoes for mashed taters. No more having to watch for things to come to a boil and then turn down and having boiled over messes on the stovetop.

eggs + 1/2 to1 cup water for 6 min (I do 7 if my eggs are right out of the fridge) on medium are perfect everytime and shells slip right off when peeling them.

potatoes about 5 min on med or low depending on how small you cube them. I use 1-2 cups water for potatoes. do not need to add as much salt as with boiling them on the stovetop.

Received mine as a gift and love it! For the poster who said that the directions are intimidating, not so. A little more button pressing than a crock pot, but worth it; just follow the included instructions. Usually, it takes more time to prep the food than to cook it.
