Grams Favorite Apple Coffee Cake

Hi friends. It is good to see you! I love this coffee cake during the holiday season especially. If you try it I hope you like it too! Happy Holidays to all. As that old saying goes: Take care of yourselves and each other!

Grams Favorite Apple Coffee Cake

For The Cake:

1/2 cup Crisco

1 Cup sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 Cup sour cream

2 Cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 1/4 Cups peeled, chopped apples (I use Fuji)

Cream together Crisco and sugar.

Add eggs,vanilla and sour cream.

Mix together.

Add flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

Mix together.

Add apples.

Mix together.

Pour into a greased 9 x 13 pan.

For the topping:

Mix together:

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

2 Tablespoons flour

Stir in:

3/4 Cup chopped walnuts

Sprinkle over the top of the cake batter.

Bake at 350* for 35 - 40 minutes.

This sounds great! But, is there a way I could increase the amount of baking soda and not use the baking powder? Is that possible, because I detest the way baking powder makes food taste--it's bitter

I stopped using Crisco years ago. I know there is not much diff between butter and Crisco but I prefer butter.

Yes, you can sub butter, I've made this before from her recipe and I subbed butter and it was perfect!

@LilBitMissty and @KingstonsMom, I made the cake & it was delicious! Notice I said "was"!! DH & DS polished it off in 2 days but I must admit I helped. Used butter instead of Crisco. Worked fine.
