I would not think of adding butter to a chuck roast. But that's just me.

I made this recipe alot, I just sprinkle some dry dressing mix and au jou mix and I don't

Use to many peppers I found that they get hotter as they cook. And I add a little water.

I don't use the whole pkg. Of mixes so it isn't so salty. Can use chicken with chicken gravy

mix. I bet it would work with a turkey breast, turkey gravy .

I like it very much. I don't like to shred it but I slice it as I don't cook it for eight hours rather, I cook on high for 3-4 hours. Its plenty tender. To cut down on saltiness, use unsalted butter, don't put all the peppers and juice in, and look at the ranch seasoning packets. Don't use the dip packet as it has way more salt. Use the Ranch seasoning or dressing packet. I also put a little wine in mine.

It looks delicious

It's the roast that's breaking the internet ... or, at least, Reddit.

Reddit searches for Mississippi Pot Roast rose by nearly 40% in October, according to a Reddit spokesperson.

The ingredients for Mississippi Pot Roast are simple: your family's favorite type of beef roast, a packet of ranch seasoning, pepperoncini peppers, a stick of butter and a packet of au jus gravy mix. Slow-cooker enthusiasts say it's a set-it-and-forget-it type of recipe where, in 8 to 10 hours of low-heat cooking, you'll open your slow cooker to a melt-in-your mouth pot roast.

According to Southern Living, Mississippi Pot Roast was the invention of Robin Chapman, a mom from Ripley, Mississippi who stumbled upon the creation in the '90s when she tried to make her aunt's pot roast recipe less spicy for her kids. The roast was a hit, and so it became a regular part of the Chapman's rotating dinner menu.

After Chapman's recipe showed up in a church cookbook, it began making its way around the internet, dubbed "Mississippi Roast" or "Mississippi Pot Roast" by bloggers and food enthusiasts who couldn't get enough of the flavorful one-pot meal.

The rest is slow-cooker history

This is such a delicious meal & easy recipe. I've been cooking it overnight either Friday or Saturday - it's done and ready when I wake up next day for weekend meals. Favorite sides include mashed or roasted potatoes, green beans or broccoli with garlic bread or dinner rolls
