    <description>&lt;P&gt;I make a smaller version of this cake for the two of us in a round cake pan:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Topping:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;4 tbsp butter&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1/2 cup brown sugar&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;4 peeled and cored Granny Smith apples cut into 1/2" slices&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Cake:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1/2 cup sour cream&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1 egg and 1 yolk&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1/2 tsp vanilla&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1 1/4 cups flour&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;3/4 cup sugar&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1/2 tsp baking powder&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1/4 tsp baking soda&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1/8 tsp salt&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;8 tbsp room-temperature butter cut into chunks&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Topping:&amp;nbsp; Heat butter in skillet over medium-high heat to foaming, stir in sugar.&amp;nbsp; Cook until sugar turns dark brown.&amp;nbsp; Fold in apples to coat.&amp;nbsp; Cook until apples begin to soften and juice is thickened, about 6 minutes.&amp;nbsp; Pour into greased 9" cake pan.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Cake:&amp;nbsp; Whisk 1/4 cup sour cream, egg and yolk, and vanilla together in small bowl.&amp;nbsp; In big bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder and soda, and salt to blend.&amp;nbsp; Mix in butter and 1/4 cup sour cream with electric mixer for 2 minutes.&amp;nbsp; Beat in sour cream/egg mixture until batter is fluffy.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Spread batter in thin layer over apples in cake pan.&amp;nbsp; Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.&amp;nbsp; Cool on rack for 5 minutes.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Place serving plate on top of cake pan and invert.&amp;nbsp; Let sit for 1 minute to pull away from pan.&amp;nbsp; Remove cake pan.&amp;nbsp; I like this served warm with vanilla ice cream. &amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/P&gt;</description>
