Favorite Penzeys?

I'm in a bit of a cooking rut. I see that some of you like the herbs and spices that Penzeys offers.

I think I'm open minded about flavorings - which do you use often?

I love Penzey's Mignonette Pepper. It's a blend of cracked black pepper, white pepper, and coriander. It's great on steak!

I'm loaded with Penzeys spices, my favorites are California seasoned pepper, smoked paprika , adobo and freeze dried shallots. Oh and Arizona dreaming which has a bunch of things in it. Check them out on the website. 😋

Greek

All very easy to use and on most everything.

They have Bay Leaves from Turkey which are the very best and most healthy.

California pepper

Florida pepper

Sunny Paris

Northwoods seasoning

All are salt free except for Northwoods(it’s really good on roasted potatoes and in meatloaf). I like Florida pepper on brussels sprouts, broccoli, Sunny Paris on eggs, but of course anything goes!

I like it all LOL!!! I have a cabinet full of Penzey's plus Simply Organic spices.

Before you buy search for coupons for some free spices.

You might want to check their gift boxes. They have some at special prices right now. They also have some called minis which might be a good place to start.

At the bottom of their page they have trial bags of some of their spices you could try before buying larger sizes.

Only buy what you need so you can keep fresh spices.

We regularly go through the garlic powder and salt, freeze dried shallots, and peppercorns.

I'm wild about Fox Point seasoning! Poultry seasoning and Bavarian seasoning are favorites, too.

Ashamed to admit had to buy another spice rack and a tiered spice holder - even after getting rid of my 100 year old spices.

One of my favs is the Ceylon Cinnamon. The others are cassia, not actually cinnamon, and are not a good choice for me, or for the things I make for the bird.

I use quite a few, but pretty much just the one-spice items, as opposed to the mixes. Nothing against them, I just haven't had a use for the mixes except the taco seasoning. That's a good one for tacos and a few others things for which I use it.

Tsar Dust in browned hamberger and oddly, pureed carrots

Sarawak White peppercorns only pepper i have in the house.

single strength Vanilla.

I love black pepper and Penzey's has several different kinds and they are all very good.

I also buy their salt.

I'm not as big on the blends, unless it's has a heavy pepper presence.

We are lucky to have a store nearby.

I could spend all day in there!

I like their salad dressings. A little bit goes a long way.

I also like their Italian blend of herbs.

I don't use blends from any spice purveyor too often but I do like Penzeys Shrimp & Crab Boil and their Northwoods Fire Seasoning.

Have purchased some of their gift packs as presents which have been well received.

I'm interested to read that some of you prefer the single over the blend. So many choices.

I just ordered some things (turmeric, ginger, garlic) for a relative with Lyme. Hopefully they help him feel better.

Owners of The Spice House, Tom and Patty Erd, are second generation spice merchants. Their business was founded by Patty's parents, Ruth and Bill Penzey, Sr. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1957. Patty grew up working in the shop. (To Patty, as a child, it seemed a pretty torturous way to earn an allowance but Patty's perception has vastly changed about the business since she became an owner!)

The senior Penzeys sold the business to their firstborn child and son-in-law in 1992 as they looked toward retirement. The credit for the creation of The Spice House, its principles and its dedication to quality, goes wholeheartedly to Bill and Ruth Penzey.

Just recently I tried something new....Tarragon!

I had never heard/used it before. What a wonderful herb! Really opened a new flavor pallete for me!

I actually prefer single herbs/spices as I never know what to do with blends! LOL

However, after loving Tarragon, I tried

Parisian Bonnes and Fines Herbes, two blends that use Tarragon as well as other herbs.

Highly recommend if you haven't tried.

Thanks, @RespectLife. I will look at those, also. I knew vaguely there was some history of a split, if you will, in the family.

The last time I used tarragon was in a ranch dressing. Very sophisticated flavor.

I love lovage as a fresh herb. I think I will dedicate some time this spring to planting more.

Can't wait to experiment!

Love both the Italiian salad seasoning and blend.

Their chip and dip seasoning is a winner, too.

I can almost taste some of these in plain Greek yogurt. Yum. Over a potato, a chicken breast (chips - no LOL).

I can't wait to get seasonings for a vinaigrette. With a nice leafy salad.

My favorite chicken seasonings are

Ruth Ann's Muskego Ave Chicken and Fish Seasoning blend

Greek Seasoning blend

Trinidad Marinade seasoning blend

Fajita seasoning is the best, go light rather than heavy when mixing a marinade.
