Or it could just mean that the seeds were planted by birds, animals or in our case by me. I mixed clover seeds with our grass seed when we filled in our pool. I did it for the bees.

They may be weeds, but some are also edible. Sorrel and purslane, as well as the better-known dandelion leaves.

Hahaha! I've had dandelion with hot bacon dressing nearly every spring, and I've had purslane in several versions - not my favorite. Sorrel can be toxic when eaten in quantity, so I avoid it. My grandmother made dandelion wine using the flowers.

The first time I heard about purslane was when reading "Walden."

Our most noxious weed isn't listed. It's the puncture vine or goat head which will blossom forth when summer rains start as a ground cover vine with a pretty yellow flower. The flower soon turns into a viscous thorn or burr. Dogs get them in their toes, track them in the house where stepping on one barefooted will have you crying for your mama. They'll puncture bicycle and wheelbarrow tires. You can't get rid of them as the wind blows seeds into the yard. They thrive in hot, dry sand with just sprinkles of water.

Goat Head Weed and Thorns
