Good grief!

It's only March 1 and I'm so excited about spring, I can hardly stand it. I have big plans, as usual, but am older and know my limitations. And I have waay more limitations than I did last year.

We had a warmish winter, so I already have daffodils, iris, and daylilies coming up. They will probably get nipped by frost a time or two, but they'll survive.

Anyone else getting the urge to dig?

@tototwo First comes the cleanup. I have already trimmed 2 hollies, These are large 7' trees. I usually do them later in the spring, but last year I hired a guy and he did them in February. I was afraid I would have to do them again later in the year since he really wasn't as brutal as I usually am with them, but they didn't seem to grow back as much, so I'm trying that this year. Plus, I'd like to get them done before birds start building nests in them and I won't have to worry about the plants beneath since I have to use a step stool to get the tops done since they haven't emerged yet.

I plan to get one tomorrow before a guy comes to pull it up for some structural work that needs to be done and then he'll put it back after they're done Then, I have one, in particular, I want to get to before I blow the leaves out of that bed since the guy is also going to bring and spread some mulch . That will leave 4 more big hollies.

I can't even think about digging until that's done, and then there's the tiered rock garden full of leaves that has to be de-leaved.

However, today I'm putting out some of the house plants at least for the week since the low temps aren't supposed to get below 50. I'm sure I'll have to drag them back inside at some point. Our last frost date is in April.

I've had a nasty cold this week so delayed my pruning and clean up till next week. With my luck, it will turn cold and snowy.

It must be spring.....I just had my spring wreath hung on my hall door. (This is indoors). It's cold today and tomorrow, but after that it looks like a stretch of early spring weather. I'm ready!

@tototwo Way to go!!! I agree, I just had to go outside and just enjoy the day ~ so good. Found lots of green coming out of bulbs and hydrangeas already trying to bud. And, as many others have mentioned needs lots of cleanup (which I started).

I thinking it's going to be a good year 🌺💐🌸 Enjoy!

@tototwo I have to laugh ... it was snowing this morning here on the east coast ... just north of Boston... and we have mounds of snow everywhere! I have no idea when this will all melt! 🤪

Yes! The weather is finally going to take a turn here on Long Island and I am READY for it!

The snow we have had on the ground since January (and from a blizzard last weekend) should be gone in the next few days. Once that happens, I'll be out there, looking around for signs of life in my garden. I already found a viola last week and it gave me hope.

We'll be doing little things outside here and there to get ready for Spring in the next few weeks. I have placed my online Proven Winners order for some of my annuals on Saturday and they will be here in April. In the meantime, I'll be visiting local nurseries to pick up even more annuals as they become available. I'll be ready to start planting at the end of April/early May.

I can't wait!

A couple of days ago we actually had sun and it climbed into the upper 50s, there was dancing!!!! Now we have calmed down will wait until Mother's Day to get serious. Mother Nature is such a tease.

Right now I'm growing tomatoes and kale. Just finished harvesting the last of my lettuce. I'm going to buy my cucumber plants this week.

Once the heat sets in here in Arizona, I won't plant anymore vegetables until September.

We got freezing rain yesterday. Bummer. I won't be planting anything until Mother's Day (unofficial garden rule), but could be cleaning garden spaces until then. I just noticed this morning that my old faithful burgundy mums are up about 3 inches in front of my porch.

@tototwo - Yes! I want to get digging in the dirt. I have a lot of cleanup to do. It is tedious but I don't mind. I take my time and enjoy the fresh air and smell of dirt. It feels good to walk in the grass barefoot.

I'm in south CT and we got hammered with snow this year! I still have huge snowbanks but my gardens are finally showing in some spots ! Holy moly, the yard is a wreck from the snow plows- Slabs of grass pulled off and landed in odd spots! Lots of lost of grass chunks missing all over too- Cleanup and fixing the lawn is gonna take a while- ! I am ready to start getting the garden going-! This year, I want to focus on getting ground over in. It's a big area and oh the weeds. I got woolly thyme "Trample me thyme" from Roberta's at the Q few years ago and it has taken off! I'm gonna split it and spread it around- Ifcthey sell it again, I would buy more! Love it, none of the critters eat it!

@Skyegirl21 - I know! We have relatives in Connecticut and they are screaming "Enough!" with the snow and cold. I feel lucky because here in Middle America, we only got one snow storm this winter. It's early yet - we may get freezing rain and snow in April.

After a week of rain and clouds, we're supposed to have "sunny and 75" (like the song says) tomorrow. I'm psyched. I'll start trimming and cleaning around the front porch and gradually move around the house. I don't have the wooly thyme, but I do have a small area of Roberta's colorful thyme out back. Some of it is up already so I have high hopes.

Even tho I do a decent fall clean up, I have already taken out 3 bags of leaves just from the back yard! I pretty much finished the back yard of clean up. Depending on the weather this coming week I need to work on the front yard.

I have the front landscaped (again) a few years ago and don't love it..just don't tell my husband, lol. I need help with making it not feel so 'cold'. I put in black stone instead of mulch and I think that is the issue, plus it is a pretty large footprint.

While I am able to do my own yard work, I was worried that I could not keep up the work in the front yard that is why I landscaped the way I did and upkeep is so much easier, which was the goal...and not buying and putting down MANY MANY bags of mulch was nothing I wanted to continue doing.

I am going to take a few photos and go to a nursery soon and ask for some advice.

I am---but only have a couple big pots/containers on my balcony for a little gardening! And then there is no sun there until late in the afternoon so am not sure what I can plant yet. Just moved to this apt in Jan so not used to all that yet.

Sad news. We had a cold front blow through here early last week. Two days were below 10 degrees overnight and mornings. This after a week of 80's. So, needless to say, everything that was above ground and thriving (daylilies, clematis, iris, daffodils, tall sedum, etc.,) all died and kind of melted onto the topsoil. A week later, nothing is showing any signs of life.

Please, a moment of silence.
