❤️ BLACKBERRIES ❤️

My blackberries are getting ripe! I've already picked more than a gallon to make a cobbler! These are very large hybrid blackberries called Triple Crown. They grow without any seeds or thorns to deal with, for which I'm grateful!😃

I've included pictures for how they start by forming from flowers, before they grow in green, turn red, then finally black. If you enlarge the center of the flower, you'll see the long, thin pieces that form the berry.❤️

I went down the rabbit hole researching blackberries, since I wondered if they were just black raspberries. It seems they're not, so I guess I've never eaten a true blackberry. It also seems my location is not the greatest environment for growing berries, among other things.

Loved the photos. Looks like you have yet another item with a great harvest. They look yummy. You guys have some green thumbs.

I wish you were able to grow them where you live. I think you'd love them. They're a lot sweeter than raspberries and make the best pies, cobblers, jams, or just a sweet treat alone.

These vines don't take a very long time to establish. We've already got three really full rows that run the whole length of our fenced back garden.

I wish I could be better about not wanting to put a bit of sugar on top though. They're very sweet without it. I guess it's just a bad habit I need to break.

I love to mix them with other berries too. I just put out my first ever blueberry bushes this year. I sure hope they do well here.

I love blackberries, they grow wild here and they also grew wild in the South where my grandmother lived. Every year she'd put up jars and jars of the best blackberry jelly that everyone just loved. She'd make jelly, not jam which is a lot harder because you have to get all the seeds out and with blackberries that is quite the chore!

Even though they grow wild here we also planted a bunch just because they're easier to access on your own property. Our plants are youngish and don't look anywhere near as good as yours. Love them!

I too grew up eating the wild variety of blackberries. I also remember my grandmother and mom having to use the cheesecloth method for making homemade jelly. You're absolutely right about it being much, much harder to make that way.

I'm really happy you got some of the other blackberries to put on your property. You sure won't regret it and I'm sure they'll fill out and spread in no time. They're so much easier to work with, both picking and eating. I'm so thankful not to be dealing with thorns anymore. Plus, these blackberries seem to grow so much bigger and without those seeds. I hope you enjoy yours as much as we do.❤️❤️❤️

I just bought a big container of vanilla yogurt, so now I can have some on top for my breakfast too.

Does your husband eat them in cereal?

@cheriere New info. Checked my favorite nursery online and they have lengthy instructions for growing these berries at my location, stating they're the easiest berry to grow here. It makes me wonder why I've never seen them in my grocery stores.

The zones are wide at 5-9, so I'm not sure why some earlier sites were not encouraging. Going to the local source, was best, and will have me searching for a starter plant, at appropriate time for planting.

They have the thorn and no thorn plants. Claim the one with thorns is a better producer, but I'd prefer no thorns. I'm leaning toward a large (almost whiskey barrel sized) planter instead of ground planting. If I just got a few berries, I'd be pleased and it would be fun.

I have the type without thorns too. I prefer these MUCH more. They're also seedless. I think you'd be happier with this variety too.

These have been so easy to grow and produce more than we can even eat! We always let my cousin and aunt come and pick what they want. I think you'll find the thornless variety produces very well. Plus, the berries are so large, you're not going to believe it!

Yes he has them with cereal. If he is making waffles or pancakes he has them in there as well.

Each morning I have plain greek yogurt and I add in blueberries and bananas.

I'm sorry I neglected to tell you the variety of our blackberries is called Triple Crown. We planted them horizontally down the length of the garden, with a wire to provide support to the row that isn't next to the fence.

If you want to plant in a big barrel, they'd look beautiful! After filling with dirt, you'll need to get a tall stake to put in it. Once they grow to reach the top, ever how high you want, keep the tops cut down. After they're established, the vines will begin to spill out the front, sides and back beautifully. It'll look gorgeous and the berries will be easy to pick.😃❤️

I always have to cut pics down way too much, but this sorta shows how mine grows.

I love blackberry cobbler although I don't eat it anymore due to Type 2 diabetes. This took me back to when I was about 10 or 12 and we used to pick blackberries that grew in a field by the factory that my grandfather worked at. My grandmother would make blackberry cobbler and it was sooo good !!
