Always a puzzle to me - ordered 2 $15 # bags of bird seed & 2 of 5 #- Shipping cost shows $5

I always opt for later delivery to get FREE shipping - OKAY.....so they remove the $5 charge and deduct $24 from my bill!.............

HAPPENS ALL THE TIME........LOVE IT. (NOT PRIME - I REFUSE IT)

I have prime, but sometimes when it is offered, I opt for a later date and get a digital credit. I use the credit on kindle books, and half the time the order comes faster anyway.

@fthunt Yes, I find it funny so many people pay for Prime. I heard it is now $180. I don't have Prime but almost always can order the minimum of $25 to receive free shipping and receive my items in 2-3 days.

My calculations are.......... at the $180 cost you would have to order one item a week on QVC @ 3.50 S&H to pay that 180. No thanks. I always take advantage of the free shipping on QVC and rarely order anything that I have to pay shipping. Unless, of course, if an item is extremely discounted. My rule of thumb, I will buy a Lunchtime Special (or another discount) if under $25 if I have to pay shipping. Or, I just wait until the next FS day or skip the item.

My Amazon Prime was $139 in January. That doesn't just pay for shipping - Prime music, movies, games and ebooks also are included in that fee. I'm a rabid reader so I can't wait to pick my free book every month from about 8 choices spread out over 4 or 5 genres. Some months it's 2 free books. My bedbound son watches a lot of Prime movies and series.

As far as the shipping, I order a lot, but not in large amounts - it's one thing here and another single item there. So I often would not reach the minimum for free shipping. I'm a caregiver for two family members and don't have time to run to a lot of stores looking for a specific item. So it's a big time saver for me and worth every penny.

I have Prime but don't order that much from Amazon since they are no longer one of the cheaper options. Most often their prices are the same as elsewhere. Placed an order with Target yesterday since with them I at least get their Red Card 5% off.

When I do placed an Amazon order I wait until I have a few items in my cart and also select the later date for the digital credit.

When I shop at Whole Foods I buy what they have on sale. A few trips a month with the additional Prime savings practically pays for the membership.

I do the same thing, QVCkitty. We order so much from them, both personally and for business. I love having those credits.

@shoesnbags Yes Prime is more than just shipping. I use most of the prime features. It doesn't pay fo everyone, but it works for us.

@shoesnbags From other posters, Prime just went up in price. I don't know since I don't purchase it. However, I don't need movies as we have Netflix and other streaming. Plus, some Amazon movies you still have to pay for even with Prime. Many times I can find items cheaper than Amazon anyway, especially the food items If it works for others, that is great. I just can't account for spending that much, I wouldn't benefit.

I not only have Prime but the Prime Visa Card which I use exclusively for the cash back features. Mainly the 5% on all Amazon purchases. (lesser amounts on non Amazon Purchases) I don't touch it until it's time to Christmas shop. Have monies deposited into checking and start all over. Like all that Prime offers and take full advantage.

Like most things Prime is not a good value for everyone and no need to justify one way or another.

@cjm61 That is not true. I just paid mine and it was 139.00. It is well worth it to me. I get almost everything within 2 days. They have great shows you can watch, You get advanced sale options during Prime Days. You have thousands of songs that you can play. You can get cloths and try them on without paying. When you ship something back, you do not have to box it or nothing. They do all of that and it is free. I wouldn't be without it. I have gotten some really nice clothes and they are less then half the price of Q's clothing and much better quality.

I pay $16.11 a month for Amazon prime and that gets me Amazon prime on tv and my free shipping on orders.

Still $139 and we use many features besides the free next day shipping which I use all the time. I love the Whole Foods benefits and we watch a lot of the Amazon Prime originals. However, I completely understand if that doesn't work for everyone.

@BalletBabeEvidently, the prime rate depends on the state you live in. You can look at past posts and see where some pay a different annual rate as others.

Did you know you don't have to have prime to receive many of the benefits you mention? Returns are handled the same way, regardless whether you have Prime. I actually do get advanced notice of sales, I just can't purchase early. Which, I really don't care because as I said, most of the time I can get better prices elsewhere. If not, I have been able to purchase the sale price when it is released to everyone. I haven't missed out once.

I have had no success with clothing. I don't buy that much but the few pieces I did purchase were very cheap and didn't fit. I have ordered items for family out of town that have made a wish list for birthday and Christmas lists. I have no idea how they worked out. I just purchased it and sent it to them. I do like that option, my kids can make a gift list for me and if they need to return it's easy. Then again, prime is not required for this.

And truly, I could care less about music. We have XM so don't need any other music.

With all that said, I am glad it works for some. It is just not a good value for us. We purchased it in the past and it didn't work out for us.

@cjm61 It is more expensive if you pay by the month than if you pay in one lump sum as I do.

@mspatmac yes, I use that CC too. I like to save up and then get free or heavily discounted items. I didn't realize you could have it deposited in your checking account though.

I apparently deposited some earnings from something in my PayPal account a couple of years ago. I logged in and saw that I had a $300+ balance and I don't remember where that came from. I remember selling some old vintage patterns, but certainly nothing in that range. I used some of it this year to buy most of my plant orders. Helped a lot since I had a lot of unexpected bills early this year. Gotta order the plants now or probably wait until next year. They're often not available later in the year.

@chlema is correct. There is a yearly rate, or a monthly rate. The yearly rate I think breaks down to a monthly cost of about $11.50. I find that an acceptable amount, especially when my savings at Whole Foods recoups that amount.

I agree it's not a service that all may be find necessary and many of their benefits I don't use. I do like their selection of Prime video, but do understand that with so many streaming services it's easy to get overwhelmed with options and reach the point where people may want to cut back.

@Tori3569 Your right maybe not for everyone. I personally love it. I live alone and last year I got sick and was able to have several cold meds delivered first thing in the morning. I get deliveries almost daily. I Love it and can't imagine life without it. I love telling Alexa to play a certain type of music in all rooms. I have Alexa in every room. When they go off it sounds amazing. You can't beat their customer service.
