Hummers?

My feeders have been out for almost a week and no takers yet.

Anybody seeing. Is it's right now in the NYC Metro area?

I'm convinced the hummers only come to my feeders when I'm not home. "Hey, Louie - she's driving out of the garage, it's time to go to the feeders" I keep the hummer feeders cleaned and filled starting the first week of April. So far, I haven't seen one, but somebody is drinking that sugar water.

I've had the same experience of no hummers. I was wondering if the liquid could evaporate from the feeders. I took them down, gave up. We have plenty of flowers. I try to plant for hummers, bees, etc.

I think it's a bit early for us in New England. They usually show up here sometime in May. I did see my first yellow finches though just the other day, a sure sign of warmer weather

I'm in your same general area of the country. I do not expect to see hummers until next week at the earliest, according to sources that map such things. Don't even have my feeders out yet- too cold.

Your way to early. I live in NE WV, and I put mine out 5th of May and I then I see hummers, they are put up by a Dogwood tree, and when it blooms they come, and it is just starting to open up. I keep my feeder cleaned every week, and don't put them in the sun. it sours the sugar water. I've been doing this for many years, and it works. Be Patient, they will come.

I'm in Ohio and we usually see them the last week of April/first week in May...

I am excited and waiting too.....I bought 2 new feeders this year...

None in North-Western Maryland yet. I put my feeder out this weekend. Just preparing for a possible early visitor. I wonder how the hummers with do with these darn Cicadas we're going to get.

I'm much farther south than you are and I just had my first hummingbirds show up last week.

I will say that they're about 10 days earlier than usual, so yours may be a bit early also when they do show up.

Even if you can't spot them, they will be tired and hungry and will bless you preparing for them.

I have them year round and some days I can see them.

I'm in Missouri (St. Louis) and "they" always tell us the 1st week of April, but it seems the hummers don't usually arrive until towards the end of the month. I always put mine out early and then end up dumping the sugar water and start all over. I've seen none so far.

Southern WV here; my husband was on the front porch about 8 a.m., when a male hummer flew in front of him and hovered as if to say "I'm back!"

I have had my feeder out since mid March. I rarely see them in the summer though. The feeder is not in a good spot for me to watch it. However, it gets a lot of activity in the fall when they start fighting over it. I did see one in the garden a couple of times last smmer though.

I'm 35 iles sw suburb of Chicago I usually put 1 out on my birthday but I'm going to wait till this weekend. I'll start with one & move up to 3. They are in the picture window of our TV room. Very entertaining! I can't wait.

We should start seeing them here (Lincoln, NE) by the end of the week or early next week. The earliest Ruby-throated we had for the Spring migration period is May 2nd. The last of them we'll see is about mid June...til the Fall migration begins (for us) at the end of July.

Sadly for our location, we are about 60 miles too far west to have them around during the breeding season. The closest area to us is along the river/Omaha.

I'll start putting out the feeders Saturday...

First Humminbird today! He stayed drinking at the feeder for at least 5 minutes. Then another showed up, dive bombed the first one and they took off! RI shoreline.

He's late by 2 days. 2020 April 25th

I actually saw one today. I was working out in the yard and just happened to see it go to the feeder. I wasn't close enough to see if it was male or female.
