Dyna Trap TSV?

Any thoughts about whether it would be effective for mosquitoes? We've had some mosquito issues (I think due to the neighborhood pond) that I'd like to do something about this year, but I'm not sure if the TSV is the answer. 🤔

I have a couple from last year. Yes, I find them very effective on mosquitoes. And moths and flying beetles. I hardly had any bugs around my house last summer.

But they attract the bugs, and you have to clean out the bin. Some will still be alive so dump the bin away from your house.

My biggest complaint about the units is not that they don't work on bugs--they do that very efficiently. It's cleaning the unit. I live in a place that gets a lot of rain and humidity. When it's humid the fan gets full of gunk and it stops circulating, which means the unit is rendered useless. And trying to clean the unit effectively is impossible because it doesn't completely come apart.

That's good to know, thanks @geezerette . I wondered about how easy it would be to clean it and also wondered about how easy it would be to find replacement bulbs if needed.

i have a one acre one and it is fantastic. i have had it for two years now.

you can order the bulbs directly from the manufacturer, but in two year i have not had to change mine. it makes a nice nightlight in the evening also.

most important thing......IT WORKS!

I found the bulbs to last a long time. Mine lasted over two years (two bug seasons) running 24 hours a day. And they didn't actually burn out completely, they just get a little less bright and start attracting fewer bugs. And the bulbs are available here at the Q. At least they used to be; I haven't checked lately. Mine happened to come with extra bulbs, which is one of the reasons I ordered.

I do have one that I keep in the garage that stays really clean and works well. It keeps the flies out of the garage and off the door to my house. The little buggers cling to the door and when I open it they fly in the house!

I do plan on using one outside again this spring for a while when we have lots of bugs. I don't know if I'll continue to use it all season. It will depend on the weather and how lazy I am about cleaning it out every day!😄

A question for those of you that have this unit. Does it attract and kill the beneficial bugs as well as the bad? Ladybugs, bees, etc? Have you found those in the bug bin when you empty it?

@Rockycoast This question was asked on Amazon, and Dyna-Trap answered and said that light doesn't attract bees and butterflies. They also said to not place it near flowers that do attract them, because they could get drawn in by the fan on the DynaTrap.

No, it does not. It only attracts bugs that like those types of light. I never found a bee or ladybug in any of mine--ever, and I have lots of bees. It doesn't necessarily kill all the bugs, either. They are attracted to the light, and get s*cked in the bin by the fan. Some are dead, others are still alive but just trapped. And some types of bugs will fly onto the unit and never go in.

I rarely found any flies inside mine, but for some reason when I leave these units out the flies are gone from the area. I have no idea why, but it's nice!

I got my first one specifically for flies. I have oodles of them. Not too many mosquitoes, except at the beginning of the season or if we have an exceptionally wet cool summer. But the flies are terrible! And I have a dog that wants in and out constantly so my doors are open a lot.☺️

They never specifically mentioned it would work on flies so I wasn't sure it would work for them, but like I said, they just disappeared around my house with the units on. Walk away from the house several hundred feet, and you're inundated so I know these are the cause.
