We had high winds over the weekend. A lot of leaves down. The wildlife have been busy eating the Honeycrisp apples. Our resident porcupine has been back so we moved the apples into the woods for him to eat. Visions of quills sticking out of my dog. Yikes.

Hoping for some dry weather now so we can begin the cleanup. No quilting until the outside work is done.

The beavers have been busy at the lake too.

The Lab will keep the mermaid company for the winter.

So sad to see so much shriveled up, dry and on the ground, yet it still has its own special beauty. We had high winds yesterday too. Even my dogs didn't want to go outside. Heaven forbid Lily should have an up close and personal meeting with a porcupine.

The fall leaves are stunning especially the red.

And keep far away from that porcupine especially in high winds 😱

@OKPrincess @Sweet_Serenity, the lady has been in my garden for years. I bought her at a local nursery. I remember the day perfectly. DH was away. I took the SUV to the nursery (about an hour from my home). I thought she was so lovely. Two women staff and loaded her into the SUV where she stayed until DH got home. I love her soft lines. She sits in the front yard sheltered by birch trees. LM

It's been on & off too much rain here, some winds now & then. We've been battling wet weekends so the houseplants that come inside have been waiting on us. We've put this off for maybe 4 weekends now. Yesterday it was finally warmish, sunny, nice so we cleaned up the plants, dug pots out the ground and brought the remaining very big ones in. So glad we did too, they're calling for mornings in the 20s-30s this coming weekend and next week, predicting to be our first steady cold spell of the season.

Good call Robbie for us to bring in the plants. Glad we did this yesterday, he finished taking down the last of the veggies, did leaf removal in the back. We're as ready as can be now for the winter cold and that 'S' word - you know the one snow.

@PINKdogWOOD, I have my snow tires on already as I travel early morning to the pool to swim. It is near freezing most mornings now. Can’t wait to put a dent in those leaves! LM

Your gardens are still so beautiful. The leaves on the ground reflect the season, and your garden designs and statuary are standouts year round. I have a particular fondness for Saint Francis and also have a statue of him in our garden and in our porch. While we do have leaves on the ground here in CT, there are still more than average on our trees. And we do have a number of oaks, which are very late to lose their leaves.

Alrhough we we have our share of wildlife (raccoons, an army of squirrels, an occasional bear in the warmer weather), I have never seen a porcupine. Folks in our area have experienced coyote problems. One poor dog a few towns away was attacked by a coyote in his backyard. They showed him on the news, and the poor thing survived, thanks to a very skillful vet. Glad our kitty Lily is strictly inside.

Please keep posting, as I bet your gardens are lovely even in winter. I love the change of seasons, as each has its beauty.

Beautiful pictures. We are having a sunny day (if cold) here in the PNW. I just finished raking one section of the yard. Still have alot to go and I have a very small yard!

@DiAnne, we have had a lot of rain. The leaves (except the oak of course) are all down. I spent four hours on garden cleanup today and will be at it again tomorrow. We have a huge storm coming this weekend with a slight possibility of snow. That is a big push for me to get moving on cleanup before the high winds do their damage.

I do hate cleanup but am always happy come Spring that I have done a good job. LM

That storm is coming to us on Friday night into Saturday with rain & a flood watch.

@Lilysmom My ‘Dee-Lish’ grandiflora rose in my front landscape threw out a cane thst is 7’ high! Waiting for a rose to open up & after that will cut to shape at 5’ high.

Leaves are awful when wet. Heavy bags dragged to the curb!

@Lilysmom WOW! You need one of those John Deere type machines that suck up the leaves into a bag so to speak! That was a lot of leaves!
