Why didn't my apple trees get blossoms this year?

They are only a couple years old, but we've always had blossoms even if no apples. Two different varieties, if that makes a difference.

I don't know ,but here in maine on a path and road i take walks on ,last year none on the old apple trees got flowers or apples,i wondered why.

Maybe they need very cold weather too to set buds. Northeast had a mild winter.

The Northeast had a very warm February - like 80 degrees warm - and the plants/trees thought it was Spring and started budding. In March we had a severe FROST - bitter cold - and that killed the mature buds. Thus....that 'did in' those buds and they couldn't recover. Tulip trees - Honeylocus tree - Wild Cherry trees - never bloomed at all and on some, the leaves are sparse this year. Just hope for a more normal Sring next year.

Not sure about apples or where you live, but back in March we had headlines in South Carolina saying 90% of the peach crop was destroyed because of freezing temperatures. We had mild weather in February then a cold snap came through in March.

The forsythia hardly came on at all this year because of the weather @fthunt described.

@depglass, did you prune it? Here in Zone 5, we have lots of blossoms.

You know i live in the north, i love my apples, i have many trees, i love to can .Year before last I had tons I mean , big expandable wagons full.I canned over a hundred quarts, apple sauce, pie filling, sliced apples . ..Last year not one apple all the little apples died.This year early all the trees small apples!I have been sourcing jars, we give a lot to our customers the trees are literally drooping right now..Happy dancing !Every few years they poop out.Cant figure it out.Maybe start planning for next year , bet they come right back!Nature, if only they published a news letter!Ha!Maryanne

I live in So CA and my apple tree takes a rest after a few years. I let nature take it's course. After a nice rest, she comes back full force and yields her bounty.

It's a Gordon Apple tree.

The wild parrots and squirrels get the top 1/3 and the racoons and opossums get the other 1/3, we get what's left. There's enough for all.
