The hosts from 8A seem to focus on gardening to make the neighbors jealous. What about loving flowers? Give us some credit!

And what about the benefits of exercise when gardening, the simple pleasure we get from a beautiful garden (without worrying about whether the neighbors will be impressed), as well as the meditative focus of gardening which can be restorative to a tired mind.

I like to NURTURE - whether my son, my pets or my garden!

I love to care about something or someone and watch it GROW!

Reason for gardening: get exercise/ get involved with people who also like gardening/ show to neighbors that certain plants are not as fussy as they think or can be interesting for at least 3 seasons.

I could care less about the neighbors. If they cared so much they would be planting their own flower beds which most don't. I love to garden and look at the results. That makes me happy. My neighbors probably think I am crazy to have so many flowers.

If I hear one more time spring is only 30 days away!!! Most states can't plant flowers for at least 2 months or more. Anything to get the sale in now. All I see is 10 inches of snow.

Same here...DH and I dream of someday moving to an acreage large enough so we don't see any neighbors from any direction!

They have seeds for 20 cents a pack at Walmart. Surely everyone can spare a little change for some seeds, a pot, and some fertilizer to bring beauty into their life. Pity the ones who don't appreciate the value. No better way to share time with your grandchildren than planting some seeds and watching them grow. Pure delight . . .for everyone involved.

I'm in zone 5A. Is there a zone 8A?

I garden flowers for beauty and to attract butterflies & hummingbirds.

I garden veggies, fruit and herbs so we have all of it fresh.

My sons loved them and I'm hoping our grandson will also.

I don't tend my gardens because of any of my neighbors efforts or lack of. I just love setting up, planting, nurturing my own. One reason I live here is that I can do this 365 days a year. We've been here for 12 years now and I can't list all the changes that I have made. We have a nice sized corner lot and this gives me many options.

Here is an aerial photo of our home. You can see some of my gardens islands. I have them outlined with bricks.

Gardening has always been 'therapy' for me. Digging in the dirt, thinking of something other than life's problems. Sweating, sore muscles, feeling the earth below my hands. It makes me feel alive and at peace.

Lovely StylishLady! Is that solar panels on your roof? If so, how do you like them? Are they worth the investment?

I love having a garden. It is therapy for a stressful job and much healthier than alcohol or cigarettes. I love the progression of perennials blooming every year, every thing has its time to shine. Seeing flowers grow is just part of spring and summer.

What is 8A?

I really don't like gardening. I like adding new pieces but not the watering or separating bulbs & the dirt. I'd rather be reading on the deck or crocheting something, but I do like a nice yard appearance. I have stopped buying flowers & prefer shrubby, bushy stuff. For my on deck planters I have purchased seeds the last few years instead of plants.

The neighbors in my area a VERY VERY VERY (did I say VERY?) competitive and boy howdy, some of them get really snarky when talking about their neighbors gardens.
