Can You Name This Tree?

Last month when we cut down a very large overgrown bush we discovered a tree hidden inside. Knew something was in there, just not what :-). The tree is about 25' tall and right now it is shedding what appears to be small fruit with texture similar to raspberries, but dark. about 1" long. The birds must like them because there is a whole lot of their "leavings" on my deck.

Well, uh...no pic? Could be one of many trees like that. Can you post a pic?...at least a leaf and/or berry, too?

I have a couple of mulberry trees in my back yard. When I first saw them, I thought they were blackberry vines growing up the tree. ☺️ This year I did an Internet search for mulberry recipes and found lots of websites, but the birds got to them before I could pick any. My trees are very tall and I'd need a ladder to reach the lowest branches. I enjoy the birds (mostly cardinals) and shade from these trees.

Do the birds that eat the berries get tipsy when the berries get overly ripe? I had a berry bush in my yard that the robins went gaga over. Each year the robins would have a huge backyard party...all stumbling and falling down. At first I thought I had a bunch of sick birds in my yard. Then I realized...LOL!

Glad @sunshine45 was able to help you - that was good dective work! Now, I am dying to know…just how BIG was that bush if a 25 foot tree was hiding inside? What plant was the huge bush you cut down?

Well, to be honest I have no idea what that darn bush was. I bought it many years ago as a little stick and it grew and grew and grew and at the end it really looked like a tree with 3 trunks about 6" across. It grew to be at least 20' tall! The more we cut it back the more it flourished and grew bigger. We could see something in the middle that appeared to be a tree, and after cutting this bush down lo and behold a very nice tree was uncovered. Now I have to be vigilant because I see some sprouts coming from the bush telling me that's it may be down but watch out!

Mulberry trees can get very tall and the berries can stain cement. Probably a bird dropped a berry inside that bush many years ago.

Not my favorite fruit tree.

The tree probably sprang from a seed that was mixed in with the dirt your bush was planted in.

I once lived in a house with a large mulberry tree. It was covered with fruit, huge luscious looking berries. Upon close inspection however, I discovered a small worm in each and every berry.

The pollen from these trees is very bothersome to people with allergies. They can't be planted in Albuquerque.

I've read they can create lots of pollen, but I've never really noticed since my trees are in the back corner of my property--far away from the house. I love the literary connection to "Pyramus and Thisbe"--a precursor to Romeo and Juliet. These two lovers were going to meet by the mulberry tree, but ... I won't spoil it in the event someone wants to look it up, but I think it's cool the way the story explains how the mulberries got their color.
