ANY SPROUTERS HERE?

I ordered a seed sprouter called "Easy Sprout Sprouter" from the Sprout People online, and grew alfalfa sprouts for the first time. It is so easy, and I just grab some whenever I need a snack. They are also wonderful on sandwiches, salads, you name it, not to mention nutritious and practically calorie free. I will be sprouting broccoli next, and have ordered Moo Mix which has a variety of seeds from the Sprout People, as I can buy bulk here, instead of mini packets, though I did buy those to begin with.

I do it off and on - I need to get back to it. The special sprouters are neat to use, but you can actually do it quite easily with just a large jar. Broccoli sprouts are a real super food.

I have always wanted to try sprouts but afraid to make a mess and extra work. Not a clue on how to do them.

@hopi For details, go to The Sprout People website, and specifically look at the Easy Sprouter. It is so simple and not messy unless while plucking them for a snack, a few fall onto the counter.

I bought my seeds from Amazon. Www.toddsseeds.com. I use a mason jar with cheesecloth or old pantyhose . Rinse the seeds twice a day. In five days I have a whole jar of fresh sprout s from 2T of seeds.

@Dawnie My sprouter called for 1/4 cup. i.e., 1 oz of seeds, which I thought was a lot. You seem to have gotten a lot for the two tbs. The sprouter has an insert so that it can be lifted out for draining after the rinses.

@Dawnie Do your finished sprouts reach the top of the jar? The jar looks so deep. This is all new to me, but Todd's seems to charge less, though I didn't check the mailing cost. I just checks him out on amazon, and he charges over $26.00 for the sprouter, while the Sprout People charge a little over $13.00. He also charges more than twice for seeds at amazon than he does on his site, so take a look at his site.

@mousiegirl The seeds will sprout up to the top of the wide mouth jar. I checked Todd's site when I ordered. Seems shipping was high. I have prime. I will be sure to check again when I order another bag. Thanks! I love sprouts! On toast with cream cheese, on salads, on sandwiches.

I grew them years ago and then stopped because they can get salmonella.How do you prevent that from occuring

I love sprout people. I've been sprouting for years. I have lids that fit canning jars, the Easy Sprout and the Sproutmaster tray sprouter. My favorites are the French Garden mix, Russian mix, and the Spicy mix is really good too.

Use clean water and wash your hands before handling, especially if you've been touching raw meat. It's just common sense stuff. I've never heard of a home sprouter getting salmonella from their sprouts.

Oh I also have a hemp bag that I use for sprouting, but it requires more frequent rinsing that the jar or tray mothods. It works great especially for larger sprouts like mung beans though.

I've been trying this, too. I also bought my seeds thru a vendor on amazon. I started doing it for the cats and well since we can both eat the sprouts, it works out pretty well.
