Sore today!!!

You know those beginning of the year garden days when you do too much? Well, we just had a big one.

We had three birch in a stand of birch that died last year. Every big wind, we were picking up twigs and branches. Out came the chain saw today and we took down all three of them.

One was quite large and I was holding my breath the whole time. We tied it on to our UTV. It was in between a red maple, a burning bush and a concrete statue in my front yard. No idea how, but DH felled it without a scratch on anything. Prayers answered! Then cut into 15" lengths for the wood stove and cleaning up the mess. Whew, a lot of work!

See this photo... The birch behind the lady. Looks bigger closer up😊! LM

Today I dug out a so so rose for the plant sale, then ran two errands before coming home to prune the remaining two hydrangeas and sweep up fallen bird seeds. I just finished walking a mile on the treadmill and I am now beat. Thank goodness for Motrin!

I was out today trying to "tuck" some plants between the roots of a rhododendron that I have trimmed like a tree. Put bergina, some decorative grass and three box woods. Not enough space to do a good planting job so I will have to see what survives. Rain predicted for tomorrow. Hope they are right.

Today I dug up a small Weigela 'Minuet' and when I dug it out it was not one plant but 5 separate ones!! Two quickly got put into a bucket of water and into some shade. I am out of container mix for pots so this bucket thing is temporary. One plant got put into a spot where a small dwarf fothergilla died-- no idea why it died either. One remained where I had it and the 3rd plant got placed in a spot near one of my side gates into the backyard.

At Home Depot I bought 3 bags of topsoil, 3 of pine bark nuggets and 1 bag of composted manure. I took the top soil and put against some fence lines where a rabbit or two had dug under the fence to gain access to my yard. I leveled the soil, added some Preen on the top and then applied the mulch to the bare soil in that area-- for some reason the corners of the backyard are bare of mulch. I need to do the same to the opposite corner I was working on tomorrow.

One birdbath got set up under my magnolia tree. Tomorrow the cement slab under another tree needs to be leveled and then the metal and glass birdbath will be added underneath that tree.

Compost bag went to the veggie garden unopened. Tomorrow I will do a pH test to see if I need any lime for that area prior laying down the compost.

A hot shower sure felt good!!
