Which formulas do not contain menthol?

i made a quick search on Chaz's website.

The three WEN Kids formulas, plus WEN Men, and the Fragrance Free choice in the rice group.

No wonder my husband complains his forehead skin burns when he uses WEN. I thought it was just the tea tree and lavender that had the menthol, I didn't realize just about all the CC formulas have menthol. It doesn't bother me, thank goodness, I don't know what I'd do without my WEN CC.

What is menthol?

Menthol is a clear or white organic compound that is derived from peppermint oil. It creates a cooling effect by penetrating the skin and stimulating the skin's nerve endings.

Hair Growth

Mentholated products increase blood flow to the skin. Increasing blood flow to the scalp skin encourages healthier hair growth.

Scalp Conditioning

Menthol is used in hair products to alleviate common scalp problems like itching, dryness, and tightness associated with scalp conditions like psoriasis.

Hair Oil Regulation

Menthol is often included in hair preparations to help reduce scalp oiliness from excess sebum production. Sebum is the oil that is naturally produced by the skin.

Warning

While most people experience few side effects from using mentholated hair products, severe allergic reactions can occur. If you notice scalp irritation after using a hair shampoo, ointment, or lotion containing menthol, see a physician immediately.

@blackhole99 It could be this ingredient - SO many people react to this and some know right away and others its a milk reaction - it's a banned ingredient in many countries like Germany & Canada

Hi blackhole99! You're funny! Yes, some people can't tolerate menthol but I remember distinctly, years ago, Chaz said it's kind of important to cleansing however, I don't think it's well, for lack of a better word, detrimental. I noticed that the menthol gives me that "cold" feeling since I cleanse my body with it too. I can tolerate it just like you though! I feel just like you, I would be so lost without my WEN CC!!!!

I just searched Chaz's website for "menthol free" again and the same cleansing conditioners came up again, as I listed upthread. But the individual ingredient lists are correct.

I can only conclude their search function is maybe as flawed as QVCs.

It's a preservative approved for, and in common use in limited concentrations in "rinse off" water based cosmetics.

Well spotted, @SandGirl .

Other countries don't have our regulatory process or FDA.

It's another reason for following manufacturer's directions as written.

Some ingredients approved for use in a rinse off product would never be included in a "leave on", such as a lotion.

@x Hedge But we do use it as a leave in, maybe I'm just worrying to much but maybe it's not the menthol that some are reacting to maybe it is this MI ingredient?

I suppose maybe I'll try the kids formula, I just hope I get good performace from it since it's geared towards kids that don't need as much moisture as someone my age

SandGirl, whiy not buy the Kids formula for your DH and keep using the formulas you like for yourself? You could order small bottles of all three kids formulas directly from Chaz on his website and use the birthday discount to get a good deal, and that way you'd know which one your DH likes best, so next June you can get gallons for him from the Q on the sale pricing.

You shouldn't be applying any leave-in products to your scalp, @SandGirl .

As a hairwash you apply cc to scalp and hair, but rinse it off. As a leave-in you apply cc to "midshaft and ends" of hair only.

My hair is brutally dry.

Whichever WEN you use, try pausing on your 2nd cleanse after it's good and frothy...that point right before you'd rinse it out. Try to leave that froth for at least 10 minutes before rinsing. It takes your hair some time to load up the moisture.

You could also add some Remoist to your ends at the beginning of the pause for even more moisture. Just add it to the froth.

Another thing you can do is add treatment oil to your leave in cc.

The oil helps slow down the rate your hair loses the moisture it's picked up.

@x Hedge you are correct however, I do use my brush to brush my hair out which has the leave in on the ends, its not like I use a diff. brush on my scalp to insure no transfer of product so someone that has an allergy to MI could very well have an issue if they use this as a leave in and using MI regularly in the scalp could surly cause scalp issues or thinning.

QVC often doesn’t list the newer CC ingredients. I always look them up on

Chaz’s website.. I am not sure when he stopped using it, I think from STP

on (for example) does not ..

@SandGirl, methylisothiazolinone is such a widely used ingredient you've probably been in contact with it from several sources.

Your Dr can determine whether or not you're either sensitive or allergic to methylisothiazolinone and menthol.

Methylisothiazolinone is not present in all WEN cleansing conditioners. One option is choosing a formula that doesn't include it for your leave in.

. . . or, use one of the many Remoist formulas that doesn't have either

methylisothiazolinone or menthol as your leave in.
