My hair is also fine and curly, and I have a medium amount of it, so if something doesn't work I can see it in lank hair with a fuzz halo. Use that recommender! It is a great place to start. You can also go based on what you think my smell good and start from there. I watched Wen for months before ever trying anything, but when I saw Winter Vanilla Mint I had to go for it! My experience was that I had to try a few, and all were good except one spring formula that isn't even available anymore, but the Bamboo Green Tea and the Mandarin Italian Fig are like magic.

For what it is worth, I used Wen for a year before trying any of the other products. I used my previous hair products instead, and they worked even better with Wen. I sort of needed to prove that the price was worth it myself. IT IS!! Now I'm playing with the styling products and enjoying it.

On the price tip, I'm not finding that I'm actualy spending that much more on balance. I cleanse less, my hair requires fewer trims. At this exact moment I am indulging myself in trying a few things that I do not actually need and just want, so that is a few pennies, but if I strictly went on need I find it to be a little more than salon quality products I was purchasing at Ulta. I am not, however, ever impulse buying things to cheat good hair rather than actually having good hair.

Enjoy the journey!

I have fine curly hair - can get frizzy and read Albany's blog today re curly hair and decided to try her way of handling curly hair - need to ask should I stay with all one product of WEN - e.g. Six Thirteen cleanser, styling cream and mousse / or can you mix products? Any re commendations for cleanser, styling cream, mousse gratefully received. Never used WEN advice needed as it is not cheap. Thank you.

If I were you, I would try the product recommender on Chaz's website (chazdean dot com). It will give you the best options for your hair type and is generally pretty accurate.

You can use whatever products you like, in whatever way works best for you. If you've never tried Wen, start with the cleansing conditioner (CC) and work your way out from there. If you already have styling products that you use and like, you can incorporate those into your routine before you go "all Wen". You can most definitely mix and match different Wen formulas with various ancillary products.

My hair is fine in texture, but thick, tends to be a bit wavy. For cleansing, I love any combo of Tea Tree, Sweet Almond Mint, Lavender or Cucumber Aloe, with an occasional seasonal formula thrown in. I very rarely use 613. I like both the mousse and styling cream, and use the Lavender ones most often.

I agree with DoxieMomma, the recommender on Chazdean.com is great for getting a recommendation for a cleansing conditioner. The seasonals are also a great place to start because they are universal. I think you could use any of the scents for styling etc. They all work pretty much the same on my hair. I read Albany's post. She uses the cleansing conditioner as a leave in followed by the styling creme and the mousse. I think the summer coconut lime verbena styling creme and mousse duo is still available. There is also a great coconut lime verbena three piece set that includes the cleansing conditioner, replenishing mist and oil. The oil is great for adding in with the styling creme for extra frizz control. You can also use it to smooth flyaways as a finisher. The mist is great to refresh your curls. The oil is also great to use as an overnight scalp treatment. These two sets would be a great place to start if you want to go all in. If you are wanting to take it slower, just start with the cleansing conditioner. However, you can return items to qvc if you decide they are not for you. Good luck!!!

I could suggest either going with Chaz Recommender and what ever core CC is best for you. But I more would tend to recommend a seasonal Cleansing Conditioner now available - Summer Honey Peach. It is pretty much universal, did not see anyone posting anything negative about it, regardless of what different type of hair people have. It is moisturizing, leaves the hair tangle free and bouncy, and it smells great! 16 ounces or 32 oz are available untill the end of summer.

dulwich, these three options below are probably the simplest way to dive into Wen.

Sweet Almond Mint (SAM), Tea Tree (TT) and Pomegranate (POM) are among the formulas considered to be universal which means that they seem to work for most people.

Some people don't really like the TT scent. It's a bit medicinal but tea tree oil is anti fungal and antibacterial which makes for a healthy scalp. -- A number of people don't like the POM scent that much (includeing me), but it works for most people.

What is great about these three kits is that they are all around $40 (plus $3 S&H) which makes them all an affordable way to try Wen. Since these three formulas work for most people, they will probably work for you. If you like them, then you can venture out into other Wen lines.

Also, I'd recommend just starting with the Cleansing Conditioners. find out how they work for you and then come back for styling products. A lot of Wenners just started out by using the Cleansing Conditioner. (CC)

Make sure you add a dime size (to a Quarter size) pump of CC back into your hair as a leave in. Only apply from below the scalp line to the ends. Don't worry, it won't make your hair greasy. I have thin/fine hair and a very oily scalp, so it took me 4 months before I finally applied the leave in.

While I really like the product reccomender feature at Chaz's site, for me personally, it hasn't been that effective. I have thin/fine hair and according to the recommender lavender CC is my best option. Unfortunately, LAV leaves my hair dry and frizzy. In the Core/Classics line my hair does much better with TT which is not one of the ones recommended for my hair. -- From what I've read, while the recommender does work for some people it leaves others puzzled.

btw, feel free to ask as many questions as you need to.

-- bebe

______

* Wen OTO - better than gallon price!! - 16oz SAM CC & (8) 2oz Variety CC Travel Packs... -- WEN by Chaz Dean 16oz.

dulwich, this information is in message #3 of the Wen 101 thread. it gives an overview of the various Wen Cleansing Conditioners lines. It may be too much info but I decided to include it just in case you were interested.

For an easy decision, again, I'd suggest just going with one of the three kits I mentioned in the previous message.

Best of luck!!

-- bebe

_________

TYPES OF WEN CLEANSING CONDITIONERS

____

Core (Classic) Cleansing Conditioners

* wheat-based: Sweet Almond Mint (SAM), Tea Tree (TT), Fig (FIG), Lavender (LAV), Cucumber-Aloe (CA)

* soy-based & And when they're gone, they're really gone. So order sooner rather than later.

-

* Note: For the first time this June, Chaz has made four Seasonal scents available during June Wen Gallons Month: one for each season. He seems to have selected the most popular Seasonal for each season. -- It's too soon to know if the Seasonals will become a staple for June Wen Gallons Month, but they seem to be a welcome addition to the Wen gallons line.

-

Note: Additionally, for the past few December TSVs, Seasonals have been a part of the mix. The Wen December TSV generally includes (5) 16oz. Cleansing Conditioners and has been priced at $80 for the past few years. This past December, Chaz included a Seasonal TSV which included FGP, WVM, SMC, SOB & SHP -- They have been among the the most popular Seasonal scents.

____

@dulwich wrote:

Thank you.

I also have fine curly hair that's prone to frizz. I used WEN Fig because curly hair loves moisture. It doesn't weigh my hair down. My hair is naturally very dry and many of the other formulas leave my hair feeling too dry unless I mix them with Fig. I also use 613 as an occasional treatment, as well as the oils and the Remoist.

If you want to start out with WEN, I'd recommend getting one cleansing conditioner to start with and see how you like it.

Yes, you can absolutely mix products. I've tried all of the WEN styling products and found none of them work well for me. I prefer curly-specific styling products and find they provide better definition and frizz prevention.

I like to add some of the WEN oil to my soaking wet hair after my WEN leave-in and before my styling product. That also really helps prevent frizz. IF you don't want to invest in a WEN oil without knowing if that will work for you, pick up a small bottle of jojoba or argan oil at a local Whole Foods or health food store and try adding a few drops of that to your hair. I avoid most of the drugstore hair "oils" because most of them contain a large amount of silicone and then some oils in there with them. I prefer to use an actual oil-based product.

If you're really worried about the whole "no shampoo" thing and need to prove it works before you spend the money, give the WEN method a try with a drugstore conditioner. I did that for months before I switched to WEN. I used Suave Coconut conditioner and it got my hair clean, but wasn't very moisturizing. WEN is much better, but the Suave cost $1 and proved to me that giving up shampoo works.
