I know many of us become "chemists" while cleansing and experiment with Wen combinations. I thought it would be fun to post our crazy mixtures and the results (good and bad). This would not only be helpful to fellow Wenners but newbies starting out and it may inspire others to play around.

My newest combination:

319 & FVWP CC to cleanse/rinse/ repeat

lots of both CC as leave in along with FTP oil.

I diffused until it was about 60% dry and then added FTP styling cream, BGT Texturizing spray and BGT mousse (I know, but the scents actually didnt go crazy).

I did a large bantu knot (one huge twisted bun) pinned it and wrapped with my scarf for the night.

The next morning I used FTP RTM and more BGT Texturizing spray and mousse.

Result: Defined, shiny, slightly stretched curls. They are holding almost like I used a gel but not hard at all.

What I learned: When I first started stretching I didnt like the way my curl pattern changed. I wanted to keep the curls I love but just enlongate them a bit. Using the Texturizing spray did it!! I have finally found my use for this!

What I would change: Instead of one large bantu knot... maybe two as the back isnt as defined as the front.

Yesterday I cleansed with CA first WCM second, WCM leave in, CA SC plopped for 15 minutes and diffused dry then used BGT VTS.

I pineappled last night and my hair was just as curly second day. I took my hair down this morning and was ready to leave.

Wow! That sounds great! I absolutely experiment all kinds of ways too. I use the styling creme on dry hair, half a pump to just add a bit of moisture. I do that with mousse too. I use those on soaking wet hair like Chaz says but I mix too. I must have had six or seven, maybe more cleansing conditioners in one bottle I would just use first and second cleanses. The scent was great too. I don't use anything else on body or hair but Wen products. I found Wen to be the best and I've tried 'em all. Nothing measures up. I posted this before but I kept looking at the new NBT in Light Chaz has on his site. I kept looking at it and wondering, hmmmm I'd like to try that but it's kind of high and no easy pay but he did black Friday and I grabbed one. I LOVE IT!!! The odd thing to me is that I did not really care for the EDP which QVC has out now?! When I use it I don't need any perfume, the scent is there for a long time but to me it smells like strawberries/peaches and cream. The results are amazing too. It melts in and it's like being wrapped in a velvet blanket. I love to try all kinds of Wen all kinds of ways. I always feel like a princess every day, Wen is so amazing.

I mostly play around with numbers of pumps of leave in CC, SC, mousse, or glossing serum. I have baby fine straight hair, so my options are limited. I've managed to put up to 2 pumps of SC in my hair and I've managed 2 pumps of glossing serum. My hair looks fine, although much more product and it would likely verge into greasy-looking.

I also experiement with how much CC I leave in my hair - I can use almost a whole pump from a 32 oz. It seems to thicken and hydrate my hair. My hair is actually flatter if I don't put it in. However, if I put the same amount on my daughter's thick wavy hair, her hair becomes massive! She's six so that just means she gets more stuff stuck in it

When I had longer hair, I used to use the Remoist to do a messy bun.

I don't really mess around with scents anymore, probably because I'm mid 319 CC right now.

I do fine with mixing as long as I use a Seasonal, and either a Classic or Rice formula. I do prefer the newer seasonals that have some form of honey.

After much experimenting with amounts, using alone, and using with other products, I have concluded that I can NOT use any cc as a leave-in. No matter how much or how little, how wet my hair is or isn't...it just leaves my hair limp and flat. Now, I will use about a 1/2 pump on my chin-length, fairly thick, layered hair as a leave-in if I know I won't be leaving the house that day, just for some extra conditioning.

This! I also use less SC and Glossing Serum than recommended for my hair type/length, and get MUCH better results when I mix it together in my hands before applying (as opposed to applying each separately). If I use more than 4-5 pumps of mousse, the excess just ends up on the shower floor, and I can't use mousse if I use styling cream. So I only use mousse if I'm air-drying.

Naughty girls.

I actually buy cheap tee shirts to use for my hair alone. When places like Old Navy have them for $3 or $5 bucks I grab a few to wrap my hair in or place on the back of the chair if I am sitting while its still drying.

My other experiment is with time between Wen washes. Again, I have baby fine straight hair, so it will show oiliness very fast. However, I can now simply rinse my hair on day 3 (or more often if I've worked out or worn a bike helmet), put in some more CC as leave in, SC and styling product, and my hair is near as good as when I've washed with Wen. I've "co-washed" when I've been in a rush for many years; however, I could never do this on a regular basis when I was using regular shampoo. And I know that it's not because my hair follicles are blocked. My scalp just doesn't over-react anymore and produce too much oil. Some CCs are better than others for my scalp obviously, but my scalp doesn't feel dry and tight anymore nor does it get crazy oily on day 2/3.

Of course the one problem is that I probably don't use my oils as much as I should

That is interesting about not being able to use the CC as a leave in. I always pay attention to the presentations about how many pumps of this or that to leave in of CC, styling creme, mousse, etc. But it never worked out quite right for me. It's when I used less and mixed it all together (except for mousse - saved that for last) that I got the best results. Chaz's recommended amounts were too much for my hair, although I know for other's they are just right. Different strokes for different folks I guess...

@cac140I agree that although we can use Chaz's directions as guidelines we have to also experiment to figure out what works best for our hair. I think he usually uses 15 or 18 pumps on mousse on some of the models that have the same hair length as me. If I used that many pumps my hair would be a giant grease ball. I can't use more than 3-4 pumps.

If so, I am curious as to why you wait to apply. I have never tried that although I do find that the mousse only works for me on semi dry hair.

Truthfully, I just forgot it. My SC is in my shower and I did my hair after getting out of the tub. By the time I thought about it my hair was pretty much as dry as I wanted it.

@kesstrain, unlike you, the mousse only works for me when twisted into sopping wet hair, but I always apply the SC to diffused dry hair to smooth and define the individual curls. Must work with SC quickly on dry hair.

There are many variables to 'play with Wen'.
