Chaz created this scent because his gardenias were his mom's favorite flower. SGGT along with SOB and 613 are powdery fragrances that remind me of perfumes from the 1940s (e.g. Worth and Blue Grass) -- I'm a real fan of thos scents A lot of Wennners seemed to feel that SGGT was too drying for their hair. I have thin/fine and that was never an issue for me with SGGT (LAV is the only CC that dries my hair).

--

Seasonals that I also really like:

4) Fall Apple Spice (FAS)

* To me, it smells like mulled apple cider which is great. The scent makes me think of cool, crisp autumn days. It makes me happy.

5) Summer Mango Coconut (SMC)

* The scent reminds me like a wonderfully relaxing summer day at the beach.

6) Fall Ginger Pumpkin (FGP)

* It took me a while to get used to FGP because I just didn't like the idea of food scents in my hair. As I mentioned above, floral scents are my favorites. It probably took me about a year to get used to Seasonal food scents, but now I really enjoy them.

--

The Seasonal that I don't mind (and have gotten used to):

7) Winter Cranberry Mint (WCM)

* The scent was fine, but nothing special. But, on Thanksgiving, when I mixed it with FAS and FGP I created a holiday scent that makes me feel really festive.

--

The Seasonal that I'm not a fan of:

8) Winter Vanilla Mint (WVM)

* My least favorite Seasonals were winter Seasonals: WVM and WCM. -- I didn't mind WCM, it just thrill me (but mixing it with FGT and FAS makes for a great holiday scent). I didn't like WVM because I didn't like smelling Andes mints in my hair.

____

SEASONALS MOST LIKELY TO BE RETIRED

____

1) Spring Green Tea Gardenia (SGGT)

* A lot of Wennners seemed to feel that SGGT was too drying for their hair though I didn''t have that problem. I think it may be the least favorite formula.

2) Fall Apple Spice (FAS)

* A number of people liked the way it made their hair look, but they couldn't get past the strong (and sometimes unpleasant) scent. Some comments were: too much spice, smelled more like maple syrup than apple spice, and that the scent was too strong the the smell remained in the hair.

3) Winter Cranberry Mint (WCM)

* It didn't seem as though many Wenners thought the scent was particularly memorable.

4) Fall Tuscan Pear (FTP)

* I haven't tried it yet but, from what I read in last fall's forum threads, it didn't seem to have a strong following. But since it's going to be Chaz's newest EDT addition, I'm guessing that it's going to be around for a while.

-- bebe

Since Chaz mentioned a few days ago that some of the Seasonals were going to be retired next year, I was curious as to which Seasonals people liked and which ones they thought were going to be retired.

I've only tried the first eight Seasonals. I like all eight Seasonal that I've tried (from the first two roll outs). I haven't tried this past year's Seasonals yet. Chaz was bringing them out so quickly that I got behind, so this gives me time to catch up. For me, they all perform equally well (though that's not the case for all Wenners). -- You can click on the Wen Abbreviations Glossary to decode the Seasonals abbreviations.

-- bebe Wen FAQ - Wen 101 - periscope - InsideQ magazine - The Insider - how to subscribe -- Wen Abbreviations Glossary

Great thread!!! I have favorites based on performance and also favorites based on scent.

I'll start with scent. I'm putting them in order from favorite to least favorite.
Fall: Tuscan pear, apple spice, ginger pumpkin
Winter: vanilla mint, white citrus, cranberry mint
Spring: honey lilac, orange blossom, gardenia green tea
Summer: mango coconut, coconut lime verbena, honey peach

Now for performance....I'm putting them in order from favorite to least favorite performance.
Fall: Tuscan pear, apple spice, ginger pumpkin
Winter: white citrus, cranberry mint, vanilla mint
Spring: orange blossom, honey lilac, gardenia green tea
Summer: mango coconut, honey peach, coconut lime verbena

I'm not sure which ones Chaz will retire. However, I hope that what ever he does retire, he will bring back from the vault from time to time. If I had to guess, I think he might retire fall apple spice, winter cranberry mint, spring gardenia green tea, and summer- no clue?? This is just based on which ones seem the least popular.

I have favorites based on performance and also favorites based on scent.

I'll start with scent. However, I hope that what ever he does retire, he will bring back from the vault from time to time. If I had to guess, I think he might retire fall apple spice, winter cranberry mint, spring gardenia green tea, and summer- no clue?? This is just based on which ones seem the least popular.

I agree with you about the seasonals that will probably be retired. I haven't tried all of the seasonals since I didn't think I would like them, (WVM, FGP, SHL) and did try but didn't like, (FAS), and thought it would be too drying (SGGT). My favorite is SHP but I like all of the other seasonals that I have used.

I only got into the seasonals a few months ago, when I bought the Dec TSV. So I haven't tried them all yet. I'm trying to go by season, so I haven't tried any of the fall scents yet and I've only tried WWC from the winter scents. But I'll give you my opinions, limited though they may be, just for the heck of it.

In order of preference (favorite first):

WWC

SHP

SHL

SOB

....

SMC, SCLV (have not tried, but have smelled the SMC--I hate coconut, so these are automatically at the bottom of my list)

I'm not sure I'm going to like the food scents, but I will try them since I have them in my stash. I like Bebe's idea of combining some of the fall and winter scents to create a general holiday scent. I might try that--we'll see. I think the WVM might be like torture if the scent lingers... smelling Andes mints all day and not eating any?

I think WWC is still my favorite because I love the light creamy texture and it still had sufficient moisture for my hair in the winter. I almost think SHP might be a little too much moisture for my hair in the summer. But given the heat and humidity here and the fact that my head sweats a lot when I get overheated, maybe it's just not possible for me to go more than two days between cleanses in the summer, no matter which formula I use. But I have noticed that BGT, which I found slightly drying in the winter works better for me in the summer.

I'm not a huge fan of the SHL scent, but the performance is great. I like the SOB scent, but found it a little drying. Mixed together they are great! I haven't tried the SGGT yet, but I plan to next year since I have a bottle or two in my stash. If it's not my favorite, I'll mix it with something else. It's fun figuring out what works together.

I'd guess Spring Gardenia Green Tea. They don't talk about it much. I liked it, but I feel like it's out of line with the newer seasonals which are so heavily fragranced.

I liked the scents of Fall Ginger Pumpkin and Winter Vanilla Mint the best, but neither one really did my hair any favors. They both left my hair dry if I used them a few times in a row. I really need Fig for moisture and some seasonals I can use alone and some I can't. I wish I could get FGP and WVM in a body lotion, though. Yum!

The ones that work best for my hair are Winter White Cranberry, Winter White Citrus, and Spring Honey Lilac. Of those, the Cranberry is my favorite, but it's not a favorite scent overall. None of the scents I like best work for me.

I guess I'm just thankful that Fall Apple Spice wasn't the best for my hair. Yuck.

-- bebe

God bless you, bebe, for spelling out the acronymns. For those of us new to WEN (June 1 was my first "taste" of the flavors), this post is awesome! I do have the abbreviation list posted on the side of my computer, but love that my eyes don't need to do flip-flops and zig-zags, back and forth, back and forth, etc., to figure out what everyone is talking about. You rock! I'm giving you a big red heart for that.

Oh, and by the way, my favorites so far are Winter Vanilla Mint and Fall Ginger Pumpkin, purely for the smell; but I do need the Tea Tree and Lavender for my thinning, fine, short hair.

I can only use the seasonals occasionally, my hair much prefers the core wheat based CCs. If I overdo it on the seasonals/BGT/613, my hair becomes dry and brittle.

FAS - my #1 favorite in terms of performance, love, love, LOVE it! It gives me the best body, volume, smoothness and shine 😍😍 I didn't care for the scent at first, but it grew on me and now I really like it, especially when used in conjunction with TT.

My next two favorites are SMC and SOB, get great results and I love the scents. I would really like styling products in these formulas, as well. SOB smells exactly like the blossoms on my satsuma trees, it's nice and "pretty" 😃 One whiff of SMC takes me away to my favorite vacation spot in the islands.......makes me think of sun, sand, palm trees, crystal blue waters, rum punch and Painkillers 😛 I was so happy to be able to get a gallon of SMC 😍

I also really love the fragrance of SGGT, performance is so-so, it's one that I can only use sparingly. I adore the SGGT oil, have a full 4 oz bottle and hope to get more next spring.

FGP - liked the scent and the novelty of a seasonal product, but was allergic to it, my scalp broke out in itchy red bumps when I used it.

WVM - thought I would really like it, because I love vanilla products, but it's too "foody/sweet" for me. I haven't actually tried it......sold the extra bottle and kept one 16 oz that I can't quite make myself use........I have no desire to smell like a chocolate mint 😃

WCM - returned this one, really disliked the scent, smelled like fruity mint gum to my sniffer

SHP - tried it a couple of times, but wasn't wowed by the performance, but I did like the smell. I think I might have been overdoing with the protein-heavy formulas, so maybe I didn't give it a fair shake

I skipped FTP and WWC, too much extra on hand and the scents didn't really appeal to me. I might try a small WWC this year, will have to read up on the reviews.

As far as the newest seasonals, I ordered both in the three piece sets. Surprisingly, I really liked the performance of both. To me, SHL smells just like baby powder (maybe that's how lilacs are supposed to smell??) I don't love the scent of SCLV, really wish it didn't have the verbena, I would love a true coconut formula. But, I've used it twice and had awesome hair both times. This might be one that I purchase more of next summer.

In summation (ha, ha, ha) FAS is the best performing, SMC and SOB are tied for both performance and scent........right now, SMC might have the slight edge.

I seriously doubt anything will be retired permanently. I suspect these will be given a rest for a while and then come "back from the vault" for a limited run.

It's like paint, as long as you know the colors and amounts, you can always get the paint color you want.

As long as all the ingredients are available, he can still do a production.

It's not like he's breaking the mold on live tv ;o)

Based on performance, my favs are:

#1 Winter Vanilla Mint

#2 Summer Honey Peach

#3 Spring Orange Blossom

#4 Winter Cranberry Mint

#5 Fall Ginger Pumpkin

I really did not like SGGT, too drying; SMC, FAS and FTP left my hair greasy/stringly looking. After FTP, which I sent back, I skipped WWC because I don't like citrus much, tried SHL in a 16 ouncer and could not use it up fast enough, and skipped SCLV because I don't like verbena any more than I like grapefruit scents. I have not had good results from any of the seasonals I've tried since the second year, all the newest seasonals could go away and I wouldn't miss them. As to what gets retired, I have no idea, as I don't have access to sales data, but based on gallons sales, I fear that Fall Ginger Pumkin might be on the chopping block, since it was still in inventory on 6/30 at 11:59 pm. I don't know what the sales on the 32 ounce bottles have been, but between that and the gallons results (which are skewed because only four seasonals were offered in gallons) I think that's how Chaz will decide. The 32 ounce sales should be the best predictor of retirement, since all three years of seasonals were offered every season. The lowest seller out of each threesome will probably get retired. I don't know if Dooters is good at crunching numbers (we know he's good at crunching peppermints) or not, but perhaps he will be our best source on 32 ounce sales data and impending retirements?

I like all the seasonals for one reason or another. My must have all time fav is winter vanilla mint but I also love SHP , FAS and SGGT. I guess on the bottom of the list would be SMC, although I love the scent I don't get the performance like the others. I was thinking of this "retiring" thing last night and went into panic mode when I realized I only have 1 16 oz of SGGT. I hope we get the opportunity to stock up and I hope retiring means they'll just be going away for a year or two. Lol only us Wengirls can understand the dilemma.

My #1 Favorite is Fall Ginger Pumpkin. I've never had another one that I like better than that.

#2 for years was SGGT, but I think SHL edged it out this year.

#3 is SGGT

#4 is SHP

#5 is SMC

#6 is SCLV

As for the rest, I can take them or leave them. He most likely will retire FAS and SGGT, since, even though I really like SGGT, I think not a lot of people do. FAS is very polarizing. I'm not sure that it is that popular.

The winter scents are okay, but none of them are must haves for me. I really think that, even though FGP is my #1 favorite of all time, I really prefer the summer and spring scents as a group.

I like all the seasonals but I definitely have my faves:

#1 - FAS

#2 - WCM

#3 - WVM

#4 - SMC

#5 - SHP

#6 - FGP

Not sure what will be retired, but I'm glad to have another chance to stock up.
