The Mousse Hates Me

Every time I use the mousse, my hair ends up frizzy and looking like I slept on it. If I just put the styling creme in, it's perfect, but I don't understand what I'm doing wrong with the mousse. I've tried using a lot and I've tried using a little, it's the same every time.

Does anyone elses hair not seem to like it?

Yes, my hair doesn't look good with the mousse either! It's the only Wen product I haven't liked. I straighten my naturally curly hair and the mousse seems to attract moisture not repel.

Mouse works good for me. I had that issue and then I used one pump less and had shine and body.

Try that and you'll be happy!

@Beautoxica Silly question, but how have you used the mousse? Have you used it on soaking wet hair after you have added SC to your hair? This is how I get the best results. It was a love hate relationship for me when I first bought the mousse.

@Suz585 Yes, on soaking wet hair after applying the styling creme. I've tried as little as three pumps for my thick, curly hair and nothing seems to like it. The sucky part is that I have two scents that I don't want to throw out.

@Beautoxica Ok, I know this sounds silly - but - have you tried A LOT of pumps on soaking wet hair, say 15 total (6 on your crown and the rest thru your length) pumps?

At first, I didn't think the mousse made a difference for me. I used it, I didn't, I wasn't consistent. Then one day, I realized the mousse gave me great volume and body. When I didn't use it, I had baby fine straight thin looking hair. When I use it, I have fuller, volume filled hair with a lot of body, which prior to WEN, I never had a day in my life.

Keep trying it, maybe you can figure it out. Maybe it's not for you, but I hope it is!!

I haven't tried a LOT of pumps, but maybe I will. I think I'll give it a few more tries before I give up on it.

I've had the same feeling at times What seems to be working for me is to apply the mousse with my hair flipper upside down, so that the concentration is at the base and through the roots. If too much goes on the top layer of my hair, it can get quite flyaway. I think it's a combo of my super-fine hair and how lightweight the mousse makes it. It is a little frustrating when everyone else is having such great results with it!

Last year when I used the mousse, I was only using 3-4 pumps and it did nothing for my curls. I wound up sending it back to QVC. Then a couple of months ago I tried it again, this time using 20 pumps - what a difference! With a pea size of leave-in, 1 pump of styling cream and 20 pumps of the mousse, my hair looks great. So maybe you aren't using enough pumps - try using more and maybe that will work better for you.

Sorry you're having a tough time with the mousse, I don't remember but I think I may have had similar issues when I first started using it, I do my sc and gas on soaking wet hair after my leave in on soaking wet hair in the shower. Then I get out and turbie my head for a little bit (10 - 15 minutes) then I use the mousse and air dry. It seems to work well.

@Beautoxica, that's such a shame that the Mousse doesn't seem to be working for you.

I have baby fine hair and from day one the Mousse has given me great results. -- It gives me added volume for the 3-4 days between cleanses. -- While it has smarthold technology, it only keeps the soft wave in my hair for the first day though (but that says much more about my hair than the Mousse). -- The Mousse is the only styling prduct I've ever used that gives me consistant volume.

@Suz585's suggestions are really comprehensive.

I think any kind of mousse or styling product needs to be applied to soaking wet hair. I had this conversation with my stylist several years ago. She said if you towel dry your hair, add mousse or gel and blow dry it will be frizzie and crunchy. It depends on your hair type also. I have baby fine hair and lots of it. For me, less is more on soaking wet hair and I have had great results with the mousse using it this way. Just a suggestion.

well I tried again last night, with 15 pumps on soaking wet hair, after my leave in and SC and it wasn't as frizzy but my hair was very big and that's not what I want. The curls had no definition at all, and so I'm just gonna throw in the towel for the mousse. Also my hair isn't as soft when I use it. Weird, huh?

Ah, well, not every product works for everyone, and if you are getting good results just using the styling cream, then you probably don't need the mousse, anyway. I myself can't get the Replenishing Treatment Mist to work for me, no matter what I do with it., and it works for well for so many others.

I find the mousse works very well for me. Now, however you style it that's the way it will stay until you cleanse again and that's the "smart hold technology" Chaz mentions. I put five to seven pumps into my hand and rub hands together and apply like Chaz does on the shows. I found 613 is the very best one. I also experimented...I applied it before blow drying when my hair was still wet through but not dripping anymore and that came out great too. Remember to rake it into mid lengths, rake over and over and twist it in too but DO NOT wring hair at all! Be sure the crown gets the left over. I think you can even apply it to crown area in a decent amount too. It adds body and shine. That's a shame you're not happy with it. When I'm not happy with something I keep trying different things. I don't wring my hair out at all. What I do is take paper towel and I comb my hair to one side and twist it and hold the paper towel around it and let the water soak into it gently, I do that 3 to 4 times until not dripping anymore. I feel this keeps your leave in stuff IN and not wrung out with the water. Water seems to be the catalyst in bringing Wen products deep into hair shaft. Hope this helps!

I don't know if it hates me, but it definitely doesn't like me very much.

I only use it if I am going to braid or put my hair up. Otherwise, too frizzy. And the only reason I use it at all, is because I have some I got in a kit. I never buy it on purpose.

And I have naturally straight hair! It doesn't seem to give me any body, and I have tried every way - more, less, dripping wet hair, with SC, without SC. etc.

My hair does respond favorably to the SC.

I find that every time I've tried it and I've tried it a lot, it just doesn't work for me. Then again, I know that all the products don't work for everyone. I can't use 613 CC either, but I've tried it a hundred times as I got a bottle in a kit. The smell of it is amazing, though, and thats partly why I keep trying it.

It's a no-go for the mousse and me and I'm okay with that. <3
