Wen - for short hair, what's your CC leave-in routine?

Chaz always talks about not using the CC above the scalp line when you do your post-cleanse, leave-in routine. I'm guessing that's probably because it can make your hair oily/greasy since it's closer to the scalp).

If this is the case, I'm wondering how (or If) Wenners with short hair add the Cleansing Conditioner as part of their post-cleanse, leave-in routine.

FYI, I was talking about this in message #7 of the Want to try Wen- confused as to what to try first thread.

@bebe777 I have chin-length hair that's layered (that's pretty short in Chaz-world). I don't really worry too much about "where" the leave-ins go. I just rub my hands together to distribute whatever I'm using, smooth lightly over my hair from nape to ends with my head upside down, then go to work twisting and raking through! I just make a point of not massaging the products into my scalp. That's using CC, RTM, SC and Mousse. I don't always use all of them--usually just SC & RTM, and I most often mix whatever I use together in my hand, as opposed to applying each thing separately. I never use oil as a leave-in.

@bebe777 Well my hair is super baby fine, also chin length curly on the ends..

I always just twist it in ends of my hair, (not the scalp area), then the 613 SC, (I use alot of it, at least one pump) then scrunch some in ends as it air dry's...sometimes I use the mousse, but seems the SC is better for my hair...

Hoping with the Wen's Kids I can use a bit more leave-in, I think I could use it, but with baby fine curly it sometimes just has a mind of it's own!!

But I am confused, what do you mean not to use it "above the scalp line"? Do you mean he says not to use it at the scalp, to keep it midshaft or lower? Sorry but I haven't heard him say this so am not clear what you (he) mean?

I have a short style, tucked behind the ears (think Kris Jenner, just a bit longer in the nape for example). My hair is thick in amount and each hair shaft.

I rarely use CC as a leave in, but I always use SC. A solid full pump. I make sure to work it into my hair, but stay away from scalp.

With the mousse, I pump three to four in my palm and work it in much like when cleansing. The mousse is light enough to cover more of my hair.

On the off chance that I will use a CC as leave-in with my SC, I use whatever is in my shower. Right now, its Fig and Mandarin Fig.

Great question for us short haired Wenners!

From Chaz's presentation, my understanding is that we shouldn't put any cleansing conditioner leave-in above the nape of the neck (i.e. where the hair line ends).

I've never heard Chaz explain the reason for this, so I've always assumed that it you put some of the leave-in in the head area that the leave-in might get on your scalp and get your scalp oilier more quickly.

When I first started using the CC as part of my leave-in, I used to start the CC leave-in a few inches from my scalp and then add it to the length of my hair. I eventually realized that this made my naturally oily scalp get oily more quickly. -- Starting my CC leave-in just below my head area prevents excess oil from getting my hair too oily.

In fact, I wash the excess CC off of my hands before I add the Styling Creme (SC) and that helps as well. -- I can't even add a single drop of Treatment Oil to my CC leave-in because that makes my hair too greasy.

@vermint...me, too! I have to tump my head upside down and I have enough length that I have enough to squeeze into it. Definitely not enough to twist like he does, but I squeeze it through my palms, then turn my head upside and rake through.

@bebe777...the napped the neck? Really? Hmmm...my hair at its longest is barely at the nape of my neck and I use leave-in with 3 drops of oil, followed by 1 pump SC w/ one pump of Glossing Serum, then 5 pumps of mousse. I don't feel greasy, but I do cleanse every other day and sometimes daily. I guess it just all depends upon our hair's needs.

I just adore the Wen line and, at this point (after five years *s*), Chaz has really earned my trust.

Since I'm always cautious and add products very slowly -- lol, just ask @sonechko about me and Isomers and Copper P, tee hee *s* -- naturally I'm going to wait for other Wenners to try it first before diving in. But once (I'm sure) the good reviews start coming in, then I'm going to be all over this.

When I watched Chaz's segment with the wenderful Alberti -- which still can be seen in the video on the Men's Hair Control Texture Paste 2 oz. product page -- I looked very carefully at the models' hair as Chaz ran his fingers through their hair. I really got the sense that the Wen Men Paste provided hold and definition (and evidently added shine) without creating a helmet hair effect that I've seen on other non-Wen products. lol, when there's a gentle breeze, I'm the kind of Wen girl that likes to have the breeze toss my hair around in a natural motion.

And, as you mentioned quadmimi, I get the sense that it provides extra definition to curls... or, in my case, to the wave in my hair.

@SurferWife, lol, for sure. You see my scalp is a natural oil slick. Pre-Wen (with shampoo) my hair would turn into an oil slick inside of 18 hours. I always had to shampoo my hair in the morning just to make it through the day. And if I was going out at nigh, I'd always try to shampoo my hair before I went out, just to make it through the wee small hours of the morning with a bit of dignity. -- lol, totally unrelated, check out Kevin Spacey's rendition (http://chasingspacey.tumblr.com/post/134486593717/kevin-spacey-sang-his-favorite-in-the-wee-small) on SNL for a good laugh. first read the captions and then click on the link to the audio version (Listen to it here). For the full effect, open up a second window and read the captions as Spacey is singing the song, It's hysterical... and you understand just why the audience is chuckling away. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a full video version.

Now, after that moment of comic relief, back to my oil slick of a scalp...

While using Wen slowly (after about 4 months) rebalanced my overly oily scalp, it's still happens to be naturally on the oily side. As long as I do overnight Tea Tree or Pomegranate Treatment Oil scalp treatments once or twice a week, I can go for 3-4 days between cleanses. But if I get lax, then I can only go for between 2-3 days between cleanses.

And I still have to be extremely careful not to let any excess cleansing conditioner or even a drop of Treatment Oil near the scalp area of my just cleansed Wen hair... otherwise I have to recleanse my hair in 1-2 days... so you can see why I was curious about how Wenners with short hair incorporate the cleansing conditioner (CC) in their post-cleanse leave-in.

P.S. Kevin Spacey is one of my very favorite actors and the SNL show, in which he hosts, is hysterical from start to finish. Try to catch it if you can. Certain channels sometimes rebroadcast the old SNL episodes but they usually just do on-hour edited SNL shows and so some of Spacey's amazing segments tend to get cut out. -- For the segment above, Spacey had wanted to sing "In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning". SNL came back to Spacey with this crazy suggestion and Spacey was all in. If you've seen some of the films Spacey has starred in (like Se7en or Usual Suspects), this clip will make perfect sense.

Oh thank you for the info Bebe....I think I wil try this after I get my scalp issue cleared up...I bet the Hub will like it also, he uses the 613 SC, but then puts something else on top of that, so thinking this would work for both of us maybe..

I was reading your post to @SurferWife & thinking, never ever have I had one drop of oil on my scalp, (naturally), not even in high school days!..I cleanse everyday due to my hairstyle, it just doesn't look right if I don't...Too bad we can't all trade a bit of what we have and don't have, then it would all even out!

Glad you brought up the Men's paste, it might actually work better, looking forward to feedback from folks on this product..

@bebe777 I run it over the top of my hair all the way to the ends...I am sure since my hair is short some gets on my scalp. I don't experience the oiliness or greasiness.

@quadmimi...you mentioned you cleanse every day because your hairstyle doesn't look right if you don't...that is EXACTLY why I cleanse every day, not because my hair is dirty but because my style needs to start anew each day.

I wake up and my hair is in 5,000 different directions, especially after the oils have been on them.

Plus, the smell of "bedhead" --

I can detect it in a crowd of people (one of my many talents!)

I don't ever like my hair unless i cleanse it first, (Wen or before wen)..

When Chaz said you can cleanse as often as you want, i took him up on it..

I remember as a little girl every night my mother would roll my hair on those cute little pink sponge rollers ( one of the advantages of being the only girl with three older brothers). On the very rare occasion I went to bed without rollers and when I would wake up the next morning my mother would always call me Phyllis (as in Diller) because it was ALL OVER THE PLACE MESSY! I've never had good "second day" hair. I have to start fresh!

@quadmimi I also cleanse every day due to "bed head", not because my hair is oily--if it were just for "cleanliness" I could probably go every other day. I also just like the feeling of freshly cleansed hair...always have! But I just do a single cleanse each day, using half the total pumps, working it all in, frothing it up, combing thru and then leave it on for the duration of my shower.
