Wen lawsuit - is this where we want to focus our attention?

I have a few thoughts that I'd like to share...

1) If you are that concerned about whatever news info you have been reading about Wen, then you should probably just stop using Wen.

There's no good reason to upset yourself about how any particular product might affect you. The simple solution is to just stop using that product. And I am honestly doing my very best to say this in the kindest way. No judgements. Just use products that you feel comfortable with.

2) This current 200 person class-action lawsuit is the only current lawsuit that I could find with a google search.

Anyone can start a lawsuit. You only win it if you can prove your accusations.

3) The plaintiffs can't pinpoint the alleged problem, so it's really unlikely that a better answer is going to be found in this forum. -- So what is the purpose of a bunch of threads about it in the Wen forum?

I really can't think of a good answer to this question. Even if there is more information eventually, that's probably going to be months and months... or, more likely, years down the road.

So sharing hearsay gossip just gets most Wenners upset because either the information is inaccurate... or being used by folks who dislike Chaz and Wen to just fan the flames and upset Wenners.

In my personal opinion, I think it's best to just not comment on these threads and just let them die. -- They're sure to be resurrected by those who dislike Chaz and Wen, but then we'll be clear about who those folks are.

4) I have not been able to find a single article indicating that particular Wen products have been removed from the marketplace. -- Deanie, I have no doubt that you were really worried about this news story -- and these days some news people just don't bother to double check their facts -- but I don't think you should worry about it since I haven't been able to find confirmation on the internet.

ETA: This afternoon I spoke with Brit who works in the Wen Customer Service Department. She told me that not a single Wen product was being pulled from production.

5) This is the Wen Forum.

From my perspective, that means that this forum is a place where Wenners come to share their Wen hair care tips... and, of course, have a bit of fun.

Not every Wenner likes every Wen product: the Wen Lavender Cleansing Conditioner and my hair will never be good buddies. -- But I don't think Wenners have any problem with other Wenners sharing which Wen products work for them, and which Wen products some Wenners think might smell like say... possibly, bug spray (e.g. Fall Apple Spice anything and Cucumber Thyme Treatment Oil, with an additional mention for Pomegranate anything). And, of course, other Wenners are equally passionate about really liking these scents (I love the much maligned Fall Apple Spice *s*).

But that's qualitatively different from just trashing Wen in general. I would just about guarantee that's not what the vast majority of Wenners want to see focused on in this forum.

I'm not saying that I don't believe in free speech... just that our Wen forum is not the appropriate place to trash Wen.

6) I've never understood why people would choose to regularly read the Wen forum if either the Wen products didn't work for them, or if they mention that they would never use Wen.

I just don't understand their fascination with Wen.

I can't believe I'm doing this... but here I am doing this. Oh well...

I've been using Wen for 5-6 years now, and I love my Wen. All of it. Wen products have been the very bestest in the world for my hair. Unequivocally. Period. End of sentence.

Do I think that there is just one hair product in the world for everyone? Of course not.

Is it possible that some very small percentage of people have had issues with Wen? Sure... probably that's true with every single product on the market.

Is there proof positive that specific ingredients, unique to Wen, are causing hair issues? No, according to Snopes.com (see the article in the post which follows this one).

I've just spent the past hour googling this Wen lawsuit issue and neither the plaintiffs nor their attorney have any clear, solid accusations regarding specific ingredients. Snopes.com is fairly well known and so I have shared some of their information in post #2 (they can't find any specific allegations either). -- The ingredients used in Wen products are found in many other hair care products, so why the focus on Wen?

Maybe because Guthy-Renkert which makes an awful lot of money through their infomercials also markets Wen through their infomercials. Guthy-Renkert has big pockets and certain types of "lawyers" (using this term very loosely) know this.

Also, some people... for reasons way beyond me... just seem to have an intense dislike for Chaz Dean... who, from my perspective, is an extraordinarily generous and thoughtful man who knows a heck of a lot about hair care.

So here's my take away from all of this...

Just don't respond to these threads. If you don't reply to them, then they quickly make their way off of the Wen forum first page and into the backpages of the Wen archives.

If new folks choose to resurrect these threads later on... well, from my perspective, I'd just wonder if they were really Wen fans. Of course, this is just my take.

This morning I spent about an hour googling this Wen issue and I could only find information about one current lawsuit.

Since there has been so much posted on this topic in the past few days, I have included some information from the Snopes.com website below. Snopes has a reasonably good track record and this webpage seems to be regularly updated so, if you are interested in following this issue, you can use it to keep yourself updated. The webpage also covers the major points regarding the history of this issue:

As with any popular consumer product, similar complaints about WEN hair care products are rife on the Internet. What the circulating rumors lack, however, is a cited culprit in the form of an ingredient or other factor differentiating WEN brand hair care products from others that could cause users of that line of hair care products (and only that line of hair care products) to lose significant amounts of their hair.

The rumors also lacked details about whether the claimant(s) believed WEN hair care products caused hair to fall out at the root or were rather somehow damaging and breaking hair, leading to a thinner follicular appearance — without a consistent set of incidents, it would be difficult to even define the manner in which WEN's products could be responsible for hair loss. I will stop using Wen for only 2 reasons:

1. I can no longer afford it.

2. It quits working for me.

By the way, I did a quick Google search the other day for lawsuits for other hair care lines...I did find one. And it was a product that caused me major scalp issues! But did I trash it everywhere and file a lawsuit? Nope, just quit using it, and I would never tell someone else not to use it. In fact, my DH still uses this product with no issues whatsoever...just goes to show that not everything works for everyone--and ANY product can cause "issues".

The lawsuit was the leading news story on my local tv news this afternoon. The news story showed pictures & videos of some of the women hair & scalp injuries/damages.

The story will be followed up in detail on the 5:00, 5:30 & 6:00 news.

To be honest, I wish Chaz wouldn't settle and fight this all the way. The burden of PROOF is on them and even so, there clearly is a disclaimer on the bottles, just like on most other products. The funny thing is, the only one really going to make bank on this are the class action lawsuit lawyers. There will always be ambulance chasers willing to air up any cause because they make a lot of money, even if settled out of court.

I used WEN for 3-4 years and recently quit because my hair started falling out.

I went to the doctor - no medical reason. So I quit WEN - and NO MORE hair in the drain!

I would never bother suing though -but I resent people who think it doesn't happen or it can't happen (or I didn't use the product PROPERLY).

People can become sensitive to anything at anytime. I now use Aveda - I think I developed a sensitivity to the menthol.

Clearly on the bottle but people will still sue, even if instructions and side effects are made clear.

I'd like to point out that the Dailymail is the same source who SCREAMED that Jericho and later INSISTED that all of Cecil's cubs were dead.

First of all Bebe777 I agree with you completely, I haven't been around much in the past week or so but I saw another thread about this earlier which upset me. Of course none of these posters are Wenners. It upset me because Chaz has been the target of haters for years so of course all these people are jumping all over this. Mr. Chavez has been making a complete jerk of himself for years since he got knocked off his podium by Wen and of course he is jumping on the bandwagon too. Unfortunatkely this is a fact of life, there are good genuine people and there are people that are just born to be haters. Now this could and does happen with every product on the market BUT because its Wen/Chaz it's being blown out of proportion. I feel sad for Chaz because knowing the person he is this is probably really affecting him. I know he has genuine good people in his inner circle and I know they will see him through this. By the way, and as you know I've been a WENGIRL for close to 9 years now and the product saved my hair.

@ANewHue You make a lot of good points especially about Chaz's competitor on QVC and all of the Wen haters.

What I don't understand is why does the Q leave these posts up?

Wen has to be one of the top selling products the Q has....and it isn't sold just here, imagine the amount of folks using WEN everywhere!

I would imagine their isn't a product sold that someone doesn't have an issue with but you would stop using it and move on...I could list several things I have used here on the Q and elsewhere I have ceased using due to irratation or dislike.....

If I were QVC I would stand behind my vendor's, really these posts need to go away.

I am done with this subject too as I go count all my beautiful new Wen hairs "GROWING" in....!

I am staying on the threads by Wenners/for Wenners, which is what this forum is for. Since WEN and Chaz have been nothing but good to me and for me, it will take a gorilla to steal my WEN from my cold dead hands...
