RIP Tyler Skaggs

Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs was found dead in his Southlake, Texas hotel room yesterday. Only 28 years old; cause of death unknown at this time. He had been married only 7 months...He was found just a few hours before the Angels were to play the Rangers. The game was cancelled and will be played in August. No signs of foul play or suicide. My heart breaks for his wife, family, and the Angels organization. His teammates must be shocked and devastated. He was so young...

I find the story very strange & shocking!! What on earth would cause a seamingly healthy 27 year old young man to suddenly die? My heart goes out to his wife & family.I hope they get some answers soon,

Yeah....it ain’t good.

It was definitely the story here in Dallas.

Whenever there’s a ‘cause unknown’, history has shown

it’s either suicide, heart disease or OD.

All 3 make me mad as h*ll...too many young adults dying.

I'm putting my money on an unknown heart condition. My sister's good friend in high school was on a xmas family ski trip. He went to the restroom and when he didn't come out, his Dad went in and found him dead. Unknown heart condition. Dead at 17.

So sad for Tyler and his family, team mates and friends.

Local LA Angels Fan here checking in... Tyler was a well-respected, well-loved player. I live in Los Angeles with my dad who has been an LA Angels fan since they were the California Angels owned by Gene Autry... I had to let my dad know that the game was postponed on Monday and that Tyler had passed away... Even die hard fans were in shock!!!

He was a young newlywed and had his whole life and future in front of him... I truly felt for his mom and dad who they interviewed last year and were so proud of their son...

As to his passing, I know that before pitching games he liked to drink shots of Espresso, I truly wonder if he had a heart condition. Also, the other night, I think it was his last game or the game he had pitched before, my dad and I both commented that he looked off.... He wasn't really playing at his best, maybe he did not feel well????

Dang. This isn’t good.

Still don’t know if it was intentional or not...especially since

the parents mentioned an employee of the LA Angels

might be involved.

For the parents to keep this open, there might be another angle

not talked about. Could get ugly with lawsuits.

@sidsmom To me it sounds like his parents are incapable of accepting that their son, who they obviously adored, was taking illegal drugs. They are flailing out, looking to find someone other than their son to blame.

True.

But it’s...odd...they would ‘call out’ someone in their public statement.

My sports radio station just finished a segment about this & from their

sports sources, Tyler’s drug usage behavior wasn’t unusual...obviously

since fentanyl was used.

The parent’s attorney is Rusty Hardin...who represented Roger Clemens

& other high profiles. Lawsuits after a death happens often...wonder

why they chose this to be so public with a ‘celebrity’ type attorney?

Drug dealers aren't always shady guys on a street corner. Many offices have one or more drug dealers providing drugs to workers in a "safe" setting. It's entirely possible a professional sports team with dozens/hundreds of employees had a dealer operating inside the organization. It happens in many, many businesses. If management finds out, the dealer gets fired, but those guys/gals tend to be careful and operate with cover from their buyers. The buyers will pay more than the street price letting the dealer make a good profit to avoid having to deal with the street sellers. It's safer for the buyers who deal with someone they know. There's a lot more drug use going on than many assume.

It always tickles me when people are oblivious of drug use

among sports. Especially after the 90’s MBL steroid usage.

Not to mention all other sports.

I actually gasped when I read the news about this today.

I knew this was a possiblity but I was still shocked that drugs caused his death. I know many professional athletes use all kinds of drugs but given that he is surrounded by teammates and had a new wife for some reason I just wanted to believe that is was natural causes. It's mind boggling really why so many young professionals with their whole lives ahead of them die this way.

I wonder if at some point he was prescribed pain killers for a sports related injury and things got out of hand. So sad.

I had heard that the Angels organization was trying to keep the autopsy results sealed. Anybody else hear that or anything like that?

Also, @Bridgegal , giving the guy the benefit of the doubt, I was thinking maybe he did get them from somebody within the organization, thus the parents' claim, for pain, then on top of that was drinking, passed out and then choked on his vomit, as opposed to using them for recreational use.

Incredibly sad. The family must have evidence that an employee was involved somehow. The Angels will just want to settle this by paying them, they don't want any of that to come out if true.
